Fever500, Which version of the convertor are you using? Is it 0.3.1?

LwrdHaven, I've checked the code and so far as I can see all those n's should actually be getting stored as \n (which is a linebreak).

That's what I figured - however, they are showing up in the HTML as just "n " - without the quotes.

Fever500, my apologies, I've looked again and it won't create the debug file until after it has check the URL's. I need to look and see if that path is needed or not in your version. If it's not, I can tell you how to force the convertor past that stage by direct manipulation of the database.

OK, I'll get back to you with a script to insert the relevant entries into the DB at some point in the next few days.

Help Guys

Post by nik0s »

I need help with the vars_config.cgi as
a) I have copied the all UBB files one my new server.
b)I have not yet changed the DNS over.
c)My phpbb is already installed at http://67.15.16.19/~aekcom/forum/
d)My UBB directory is on http://67.15.16.19/~aekcom/UBB/
e)My old cgi-bin directory is copied under the UBB folder

I am trying to run the converter and get error message "FAILED Loading UBB.classic configuration file (vars_config.cgi)"

Can I have some help on how do I modify the vars_config.cgi to get the conversion going ?? I would be really greatfull.

Thanks,

Nik0s

I'm having the same problem as nik0s:

I'm using convertor 0.3.1 and UBB 6.3.1.1 and PHPBB2 2.0.8

My error message.

Warning: file(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/home/httpd/vhosts/bobolo.net/cgi-bin/vars_config.cgi) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/httpd/vhosts/bobolo.net/httpdocs:/tmp) in /home/httpd/vhosts/bobolo.net/httpdocs/phpbb2/convert/conv_classic.php on line 391

Warning: file(/home/httpd/vhosts/bobolo.net/cgi-bin/vars_config.cgi): failed to open stream: Operation not permitted in /home/httpd/vhosts/bobolo.net/httpdocs/phpbb2/convert/conv_classic.php on line 391

Any sugesstions? My variable files are in the cgi-bin.

ubb.classic 6.3 conversion failure

Post by EarlJones »

I am receiving the following error when trying to convert a ubb.classic 6.3 board to phpBB. What is it that causes this error??

FAIL ...unsuccessfully created temporary configuration file on server
FAIL ...unsuccessfully removed temporary configuration file on server

Thanks,
Adam

EarlJones, you are using 0.2.6 by the look of that error message. This thread is for support of the 0.3.x version of the convertor (download link in the first post)

James, Your host has put restrictions in place on what you are allowed to do. The only way around this will be to copy the UBB files into folders inside the convert folder and edit the var_config.cgi file to reflect these paths.

nik0s, It is not reading the file for some reason. Can you first off confirm which convertor version you are running and that the path you are entering to the file is correct. There is a script to check paths and file access earlier in this thread if you need it.

Conversion from UBB 6.0.5

Post by ElForesto »

I'm using 0.3.1 (as superglobals are NOT available on this server), and I get the following errors:

SUCCEEDED Loading UBB.classic configuration file (vars_config.cgi)
FAILED Checking UBB.classic CGI path (ultimatebb.cgi)
FAILED Checking UBB.classic members path (memberslist.cgi)
FAILED Checking UBB.classic non-CGI path (on.gif)

I modified my vars_config.cgi file to reflect the correct paths (I had to suck these files off of an IIS server and dump them on a Linux server). Here is the vars_config.cgi file:

%vars_config = (
CGIURL => q!http://www.aikidojournal.com/forums.old/CGI-Path/ubb!,
NonCGIURL => q!http://www.aikidojournal.com/forums.old/non-CGI-Path!,
CGIPath => q!/inet/domains/aikidojournal.com/forums.old/CGI-Path!,
NonCGIPath => q!/inet/domains/aikidojournal.com/forums.old/non-CGI-Path!,
MembersPath => q!/inet/domains/aikidojournal.com/forums.old/Members!,
VariablesPath => q!/inet/domains/aikidojournal.com/forums.old/CGI-Path!,
cache_pw => "FAPLMZPT",
Cookie_Number => "2452102.1124",
BBName => q~Aikido Journal~
);
1;

Should I guess that I've done something wrong?

Actually, it may be to do with the formatting of the file.

Looking in the code, it appears to be expecting a certain format which isn't present in your version (I couldn't test on every single variant ;) )

It should be fixable by editing the conv_classic.php file slightly.

Around line 51 you will see this

Code: Select all

	$delimiters[61][0] = ' => q!';
	$delimiters[61][1] = '';
	$delimiters[61][2] = '!';
Change all 3 occurences of 61 to 60 and then try running the convertor again and see what happens.

Well, it certainly fixed the issue I was having at that point, though it charges headlong into a different error. (As a fellow PHP programmer, I can feel your pain!) This is the error I get on the next page when trying to convert the catagories:

SUCCEEDED Disabling script timeouts
SUCCEEDED Loading UBB.classic configuration file (vars_config.cgi)
FAILED Reading category information (categories.file)

I snooped around in the code, and found the definition of the location of categories.file (around line 1154), which appears to be correct (appears being the key word here). Any way to have it dump back what path it's trying to find that file on, just to make sure it's looking in the right places?

Question about converting.

I was using UBB 6.0 on my old site.
I had to move to another server and new hosting company.
So I installed PHP 2.0.8 before i new about converters and it's working fine.

Here's my questions.....

I backed up all files from my old ubb forum.
Is it possible, to install UBB on my present server, including those backed up files (with all topics, users, etc). And then use a converter so all 80,000 topics i had on the old forum ends on on my phpBB?

Here's the thing. My phpBB is already live and being used. Many people that had user accounts on the old forum already signed up on the new forum.

My main goal here is to not lose 80,000 topics i had on the old forum. :(
Can I do this without screwing up my already installed and being used phpBB?

Any help will help.
Thanks :)

ElForesto: Do you actually have any categories set-up on your UBB forum? If you don't, it may be helpful to create one and then see if the convertor will get past this stage. If it will, that's good. If it won't, contact me by email (address is in the readme) and we'll try and sort out some updated files which tell you what it is looking for (I may actually have changed it already on my local copy, I can't recall offhand)

DanielG: The convertor as designed will wipe out all the posts and users on the phpBB forum from which it is run (which you clearly don't want). If you are familiar with PHP, it should be possible to adapt it so that it doesn't do this but it would take a bit of work to achieve.
