phpBB XS is just phpBB with some MODs added. What you need to do is remove the MODs by going to a fresh install of phpBB.

Do you have the latest version of phpBB XS?

First step and very important: Make a backup of your database and of your forum files.

2) Delete all your present forum files except for config.php
3) Get the full phpBB2 package from the Downloads page.
4) Upload all the files except for config.php and the install & contrib directories.
5) Get, install and run the Clean phpBB SQL Tables tool.
6) If you do not have the latest version of phpBB XS, you need to update your database to 2.0.21. From the download package, upload install/update_to_latest.php and run it.

You will now a have a clean phpBB forum with no modifications.

Malala,

May I ask you a question? Why do you want to change from phpbbxs? I am thinking of going with phpbbxs and I'm wondering if there is something I should know.

Thx,

Generally, going with a premodded forum is not a good idea. First off, you will not receive support at phpbb.com for them. Second, they come with MODs that you have no use for, causing bloat on your forum. You are better off to stay with phpBB downloaded from here and add just the MODs you want, using the MODs that are in the phpBB.com database.

Read what others have to say about premodded forums, do a search in the phpBB Discussion forum on the work premodded.

This is just my opinion about premodded forums in general and is in no way a reflection on phpbbxs as I have no personal experience with them.

phpbbxs has a terrific host of features, many of which make running a forum much easier than I might be able to make it and I will be turning over sites to administrators who need it to be easy.

I can turn off the MODs I don't want - or just delete the links that make them accessible. My admins won't know how to get to them even if they wanted to. I can even just backtrack and take out the MODs I don't want. Either way, there doesn't have to be more there than I want.

Anyway, I'm interested in knowing if anyone has had a particularly good or bad experience with them.

Thx,

Hi friends,
I want too to switch from PhpBBXS to a "normal" phpbb, I did it but I have some problems: quotes, bolds and other phpbb tags, like (img) aren't showed correctly: phpbb show the tags and not the modified text

You can see an example here:
http://www.mannoio.it/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10

Do you know how to resolve this problem?

Thanks a lot!

You are missing the bbcode_uid. There is a script in this post which may correct it, http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.ph ... 95#2197195

Will it work also with a phpbb, and not a snitz forum?

The script is written for phpBB and will work on any phpBB forum that is missing the bbcode_uid. It is only mentioned in the snitz topic because of a problem converting snitz to phpBB, not because of a problem with the snitz forums.

The only visible sign that the script has worked, is that it will print out "Done" on the screen when finished.

When you run the script, does the browser seem like it is doing something for a while?

The only thing I can see that might be a problem, is the phpBB table prefix. If your phpBB table prefix is not phpbb_ you will need to change the script to match your table prefix. Change phpbb_posts_text in all instances of the script.

Not "DONE" at the screen.
phpbb_ is the name of my tables.

Can you check for me? I can give you my db/ftp and other informations to enter in the forum...
