I converted v5.43a.

I reindexed threads before converting but ubb inserts blank lines from time to time. The fix is to open the forumX.threads file and manually delete them. Also, this converter doesn't like missing member files (that have been deleted from the hdd). The fix was to download a good member file, and replace the good name with "unknown1", "unknown2" etc for each missing file, then save using the correct file name and reupload.

Lastly, I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I think the converter touched a few posts files and set them to zero bytes. I have no way to check or test, but it looks suspiciously like it does. This is a problem because following the "converting forums" page (very near the beginning) where it says

Converting Forums
Successfully converted forums 1 - 16

you get this message

Code: Select all

Converting Messages

Unsuccessfully added index on username column DB Error: unknown error
DROP INDEX username ON users [nativecode=1091 ** Can't DROP 'username'. Check that column/key exists]

Unsuccessfully opened /home/forum/public_html/pages/Forum1/000260.cgi
The problem is it's a zero byte file. I checked all forums and deleted all such files, then removed blank lines from the threads file. When I re-ran the script, it complained of more zero byte files. But there was none because I just checked. I went back anyway and sure enough, there were a couple more. The only thing run between times was the converter script.

That's it. I saved almost twelve thousand posts. I'm happy.

Convert our UBB 5.47e to phpBB, clarifications???

Post by ulover » Sat May 24, 2003 9:31 am

Hi
We want to clarify for the followings for the converting process:

1. Copy the "convert" folder to the root directory of your phpBB folder.
This phpBB folder, is an existing one on the server? do we have to create a phpBB folder on the server?
Presently we have the converter zip file download to our PC, but is this folder on the server?

2. Make the config.php file world writable/chmod 777.
Will this be done on the server as well? How to make writable/chmod 777.
?

Thanks very much for your help!

Regards,

Julia Yuan

That's not supposed to work. It's an example.

See the readme file inside UBB5_phpBB2_converter.zip. Also, go back and re-read all the posts in this topic, and don't skip the first post. That should be all the detail you need.

convert for phpnuke?

Post by thebimmer » Tue May 27, 2003 4:19 am

I have downloaded, but not yet used, the UBB5 converter to phpBB.

I was wondering if the converter will work for converting from ubb5 to phpnuke?

Thanks
eric

PS Sorry for the seemingly newbie question, but I haven't dealt with either phpBB or phpnuke much yet.

Web Server Down

Post by henryhsu » Thu Jun 05, 2003 6:09 pm

Nick:

I can ping www.nickm.org, but the download link redirects me to www2.nickm.org. The latter is not responding to pings.

Is it down?

Thanks,
Henry

UBB 5.47a to phpnuke phpBB 2.0.4

Post by thebimmer » Thu Jul 03, 2003 6:34 pm

Has anyone gotten a UBB -> phpBB script to work for a phpnuke Forum/phpBB? If so, how? I have looked at the converter scripts and I can't figure out what and how to change the variables to match my envrionment.

Would anybody be willing to be paid to do such a conversion?

Thanks
eric

I apologize for not being around. I've been quite busy as of late, and actually I still am. But I'll try to make some time this summer to address some of the existing problems of the converter and also check out what would be involved in using this with phpNuke.

Hi there

Can anyone point me to a place for this converter, or anything that may have replaced it? I am anxious to move off my antiquated UBB and get over to this! If email is the only option, please email it to dma550@hotmail.com. Thanks so much!

Thanks!

The download links have been updated. It's now on a professionally hosted server, so things should be far more stable.

And I apologize for the lack of updates and developments. Perhaps sometime when I don't have any other active projects going, I'll try to refine the converter, but right now I don't have the time to invest in a project that seems to work well enough for most people.
