Yes, EM will modify all of your templates at once if it can. If not, it tells you that there is a problem and gives you the chance to make an adjustment to the MOD file or to continue on. Since many MOD authors provide far too much information in their template FIND statements, they often run into trouble when there are alternate templates involved. EM is a very powerful and intelligent tool and it works best with less, rather than more information. Once you learn the EM tricks, you can apply just about any MOD to any template without any trouble at all...

The only cosmetic problem I see is with the Calendar option on your Menu bar. I really like your choice for template. I use Aeolus too. In fact, I really like most of Vjacheslav Trushkin's styles...

It looks like you don't allow calendar events to be submitted by members. Also, I was surprised that I didn't have the option to decide the Calendar Preferences. Is that by choice or are you still playing around with the settings and permissions???

Everything looks good though. One other thing, it didn't seem to matter whether I chose subSilver or Aeolus in my Profile. Are you overriding the user choices for the templates too? It doesn't really matter to me, but I'm always curious...

ok so spoke too soon...darn it.

i added the am pm mod a while back to my board for the topic calendar...it worked great. then I added the repeating events calendar mod as well...it seemed to install with easy mod just fine. now i went back to post an event and my hours are all gone. the drop down list is there and it expands like the hours are listed but there not. i thought it might be cuase i use the subblack but when i switch it to subsilver still not there.

i am sure this is an easy fix but i am not seeing it. i went back and checked the files that am pm mod makes and there some things that were changed by the repeating events but i fixed that and reloaded the files. still same result though.

any help on where to look would be great...thanks!

If you add a new template at a later date, how does easyMod handle that? Can you do a reinstall of the mods and have it work?

I like Aeolus. It's soothing on the eyes, pretty neutral and from a human factors standpoint, that light green is known to be an excellent choice when reading on a computer for a long time. And I have a photo site that I was able to match up really easily (http://jovitars.us)

I'm not sure of the cosmetic problem you are mentioning?

I opened up the permissions for you to play around so play away. Whenever I'm reading posts I'm forever clicking on people's web sites to see how they incorporate other features!

Everything looks good though. One other thing, it didn't seem to matter whether I chose subSilver or Aeolus in my Profile. Are you overriding the user choices for the templates too? It doesn't really matter to me, but I'm always curious...

EM applies the MOD script to every template on your board when subSilver is the theme in the OPEN statement. If you add additional templates after the fact, like I did on my board, you then have to go back and only run the template code on each individual theme...

What I do is make a duplicate copy of the MOD, remove everything except for the template script, add the name of the template to the MOD Title, then do a Replace all on subSilver with the new template name. What that does is make it so that EM will see the MOD again when you upload it to a new folder and it will tell EM to ONLY modifiy that one template...

If you add multiple templates after the fact, you will have to run each previously installed MOD for each and every template. So if you add 12 templates, you will have to run each MOD twelve times for all your templates to be updated for that MOD. You will have to do that for every MOD on your board that affects your templates. Or you can remove the MOD changes from subSilver and apply only your template MOD on subSilver and it will try to update all of your templates at once...

Since you are not reinstalling code on non-template files, that won't cause any problems at all. If you mess up and forget to remove some of the non-template code from the template MOD that you create, it can end up duplicating the code and cause a problem. So be careful that only template modifications are being made when you are updating a specific MOD for a new template...

I would have provided a screenshot of what I was talking about, but it seems that all your nice setup is gone. What happened to everything? This is the link I used:

My host is down right now, so I had some time to play and now I can't get to your board either. The morning is off to a rough start... :cry:

Your Gallery is working though. I didn't realize that the Coppermine Gallery offered Aeolus for one of its themes...

I toasted my sql database so I wasn't working correctly last night. I moved all my users from my old board over along with all of the posts. I gave up about 3 am, but got it back running today.

I have the calendar back up at:

http://www.emultimedium.com/UndividedBJ ... /index.php

Your username is gone so please re-register.

When I go into an individual profile, I don't see any of the options to change the calendar options--any suggestions?

Coppermine doesn't offer Aelous :lol: I modified one of the existing themes (not sure which one) to make it match.

Ouch, I'm happy to hear that you got things up and running again. You might want to set Aeolus as your default template. SubSilver comes up automatically until you change it in the profile...

I reregistered under the same name...

To change the Permissions on the Calendar, you go into the Permissions for Forum Admin in your ACP and go into Advanced Mode. I'm sure you will see it when you get there. You have to set the desired calendar permissions for each forum on your board...

You also can set the overall board permissions from the Configuration + option in General Admin...

I use Coppermine too, but your layout looks much nicer than what I have. You did a terrific job on it. I wonder if the developers of Coppermine would be interested in the Aeolus template you created? You might want to submit it to them...

I didn't get any script errors for the subsilver template with easyMOD.

When I get stuck with something manually, I just search for a subset of that string -- U_FAQ and you'll only find it once in overall_header.tpl

Here's the code for the end of overall_header.tpl if this helps

Code: Select all

<!-- BEGIN switch_enable_pm_popup -->
<script language="Javascript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
	if ( {PRIVATE_MESSAGE_NEW_FLAG} )
	{
		window.open('{U_PRIVATEMSGS_POPUP}', '_phpbbprivmsg', 'HEIGHT=225,resizable=yes,WIDTH=400');;
	}
//-->
</script>
<!-- END switch_enable_pm_popup -->

Thanks for your compliments. If I did that, I'd have to figure out what template I started modifying in the first place so that I could give that person and Truskin credit.

I feel like a Mod junkie this week. I've done small mods to it since fixing my database and calendar today: links on the memberlist to profiles and posts; posts per day on viewtopic; view previous & next on bottom of page; username link to profile on on viewtopic; mousehover on topic; and topic descriptions on view forum. I backed out of global announcement--just wasn't working for me. But I'm learning an awful lot, and thanks again for all of your help in getting the calendar function working.

Like skistyle, when you run into a problem with a FIND statement, the best thing to do is break the code down to something smaller. With EasyMod, less is usually better...

I would change your FIND statement in the Part 1 MOD from:

FIND

Code: Select all

#
#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------------
#
# this is a partial search : the full-line is longer
#
<td align="center" valign="top" nowrap="nowrap"><span class="mainmenu">&nbsp;<a href="{U_FAQ}"
REPLACE WITH

Code: Select all

#
#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------------
#
# this is a partial search : the full-line is longer
#
<a href="{U_FAQ}"
Save your MOD file, upload it to your Part 1 folder, and try it again using EM. It should now work correctly in most templates..

I wouldn't think it would take much to figure out which template you started with. Your new Aeolus template would be a great addition to the Coppermine Gallery too. I think it would be worth the extra effort to submit it to the Coppermine developers so that others can benefit from your work. I would definitely add your Aelus template to my Gallery if it was available...

You're off to a good start on your community and I think you should be proud of your accomplishments to date...

Thanks for the heads up Nightrider, in changing that find statement would it affect another MOD, i'm not sure and would like to get some advise. I really need that calendar feature but very afraid to mess with my board :-)

No, it shouldn't affect any other MOD. EM will still find the right line and apply the code accordingly. There are some templates that aren't standard that may be adversely affected because the added template code doesn't fit in with the design. Those templates would need additional attention after the MOD is added...

Templates where this won't work are templates that use a Menu bar rather than the menu layout found in subSilver. EM will give you the opportunity to continue when you have warning errors on those templates. EM won't apply the template for them. You can finish the MOD install, then manually apply the code to those templates that needed extra attention...
