Re: Email Digests :Wrong Subject Line

Post by LHG » Sun Apr 06, 2008 12:23 pm

I have installed this mod with phpBB V 2.0.23. We are using SMTP mail for the forum email.

Two "Bugs" are showing up for us.
1 If we send a plain text digest and the Max Characters is set to All, the subject line in the plain text digest email has a subject from ones of the topics in the digest. If I set the Max Chars to anything less than All, I get the correct subject line (My Site) Digest This bug is very consistent.

2 Sometimes with the plain text digest, it only shows the topic and link. This only happens once in a while.

Any ideas on what might cause this?

Re: Email Digests: Forum Subscription List

Post by LHG » Sun Apr 06, 2008 12:28 pm

Hi Mark, We are getting ready to launch the digest! I got up early this morning 4:30am pst to work on it.

Second question.

I have 5 forums using phpBB 2.0.23 . Board users have access to all of them, there are no special permissions set.

On the digest subscription page I would like to only list 2 forums to be included for the digest. It's OK if they have to select one or both. Is there a way to do this with some minor code change?

Thanks for reporting the bugs. As I have time I will look into them.

There is really no easy way to restrict the list of forums seen unless you want to hide the excess forums by using the ACP so they show only to administrators, or to a user group that no one belongs to.

Just to clarify. If I hide the forums as you suggest in the ACP, they would not be visible on the forum index page for regular users? We want the excess forums visible in the forum, but not listed in the digest subscription.

Hello, Mark

I use this great mode on phpbb2, but now I run phpbb3.

Is there any future plans in which this mode become available for phpbb3 ?

I do plan to develop it for phpBB 3 but it will be after my Smartfeed mod for phpBB 3 is completed. My guess is it is at least six months away.

Hi Mark

I would really like to automatically subcribe all my users to receive a digest - using the default digest settings.
I notice in mod_digest_settings table that there is an autosubscribe_users field set to 'No'
Is this a field that, it it were set to YES, would automatically subscribe the users to the digests??
If so, fantastic, and can I retrospectively subscribe existing users?

You can make this YES by default in the Administrator Control Panel, Digest Configuration.

Perhaps you have an old version. The latest version (not available here) is 1.0.18. You can download it at:

well, that's all gone hopelessly wrong now. I had downloaded 1.0.17 a while ago and failed to upgrade then. Having a second attempt has resulted in disaster. Lots of error messages about

"Warning: include(./language/lang_english/lang_digests.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/thurnham/public_html/forum/includes/page_header.php on line 29"

I think the bit that really confused me is where you say to follow the instructions in install.txt in reverse. I have no idea which bit to do in reverse. I've left the tables as is and just took out the files that had been created. Is that all that needs to be 'undone'? do I need to 'undo' the batch scheduling bit?

I know this isn't a straighforward mod installation and my phpbb knowledge is basic (but growing) but I managed to install 1.0.13 so I'm determined to upgrade.

Sorry it is such a pain. I did warn it was a hard mod to install.

Ideally you would undo your database changes and remove all the code changes too from 1.0.13. You don't have to remove the cron jobs, but you may need to edit them later. As far as going in reverse, try starting at the bottom of install.txt in 1.0.13 and going backwards.

To remove the tables, use a utility like phpMyAdmin. The statements are something like this:

Code: Select all

drop table phpbb_mod_subscriptions;
drop table phpbb_mod_subscribed_forums;
