Auto disappearing text..

Post by ismet »

Hi,

I want to make text box clear when clicked on it. I mean initially there is a text in the box, a user click it to type something to search. But, the text should be disappearing when user clicked into it.

How can I do it? :roll:

Thanks.. :wink:

What he means is, the search box is displayed with something like "Enter Search Text" in the search field. But when someone clicks on that field, the text disappears so that the user can enter his desired search string. I've seen this design technique used fairly often. I just have no idea how it's done.

Sorry guys, I was in Japan for a vacation, so I couldn't reply right away.

First of all, I would like to thank ycl6 for validating my MOD :D .

And Ismet, I'm sorry, but I cannot answer your question...unfortunately, I do not know a lot of Javascript, so you might want to discuss it with other people :( . I apologize for the inconvenience.

See if this bit of code from AceCool's Quick Search can give you a hint:

Code: Select all

<td><input type=\"text\" width=\"500\" name=\"search_keywords\" class=\"post\" value=\"".$lang["Quick_Search"]."\" style=\"border-color: black;\" onFocus=\"this.value=''\"></td>
<td><INPUT TYPE=\"submit\" BORDER=\"0\" value=\"".$lang["Quick_Search_Go"]."\" ALT=\"Submit\" class=\"post\" accesskey=\"s\"></td>

Matt

Cool MOD, but I think it'd be better on the search page, especially for forums who's header is already really crowded. Just a suggestion :)
"No one can read our Constitution without concluding that the people
who wrote it wanted their government severely limited; the words "no"
and "not" employed in restraint of government power occur 24 times in
the first seven articles of the Constitution and 22 more times in the
Bill of Rights." - Edmund A. Opitz

zhaoke: The link works perfectly for me; what browser are you using?

mattbugz: Nope, I don't get the hint :? . I've tried some Javascripting, but the result is the form area clearing out after clicking Submit, and nothing being submitted...

This code has the target="_blank"> added to accomplish the new window opening.

Code: Select all

<!-- Search Google -->
<center>
<form method="get" action="http://www.google.com/search" target="_blank">
<input type="hidden" name="ie" value="ISO-8859-1">
<input type="hidden" name="oe" value="ISO-8859-1">
<table bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><tr><td>

<img src="http://www.google.com/logos/Logo_40wht.gif"
border="0" ALT="Google" align="absmiddle" width="128" height="53"></a>
<input type="text" name="q" size="25" maxlength="255" value="">
<input type="submit" name="btnG" value="Google Search">
