[2.0.17] Classic display of HTML in posts and PMs.

Post by Extensions Robot »

MOD Name: Classic display of HTML in posts and PMs.
Author: Nux
MOD Description: Just reverses some of the changes done to privmsg.php and viewtopic.php in version 2.0.14. It's a MOD for those that want to use HTML in the similar rules as they always did before 2.0.14.

See section 'Author Notes' for more details and manual MOD instaltion info.

This MOD was tested with EasyMOD 0.2.1a beta and worked like a charm :).

Thanks :).

Not a big MOD, but can give you a headache to understand what it really does so I'll try to explain...

Since version 2.0.14 of phpBB (compared to previous versions), the meaning of Always allow HTML option (it's in user's profile) has changed.
Graham wrote: (...)
a) Does this user want to see HTML
b) Does this user want to enable HTML when they post by default
(...)

Point a) is new in 2.0.14 - what does it mean? Let's say you want to enable using <img> tag on your board and let people use it.
  1. You enable HTML on your board in ACP > Configuration.
  2. You enable (allow) the tag <img> on your board.
  3. User1 (let's call him Poster ;)) writes a post like:
    Poster wrote: <img src="beautifull.jpg">
  4. Poster has unchecked Disable HTML in this post when he wrote it (so the picture should be displayed).
  5. User2 (HtmlWriter) comes in - the user loves to write in HTML and enables it by default (Always allow HTML = Yes).
  6. HtmlWriter checks the Poster's post and see the picture: beautifull.jpg.
  7. User3 (HtmlReader) comes in - the user don't know how to write in HTML so disables it by default (Always allow HTML = No).
  8. HtmlReader checks the Poster's post and see the text: <img src="beautifull.jpg">
I guess that HtmlReader would be quite confused while HtmlWriter would feel all right ;).

The trick is that in previous versions of phpBB Always allow HTML meant only 'Does this user want to enable HTML when they post by default' and that's exactly what HtmlReader wanted. What would he have to do to see the picture just as HtmlWriter? He would have to go to his Profile change Always allow HTML to Yes and go back to Poster's post :?.

Well I don't like it. If I allow something as administrator I want it to work :x ;). If you think the same you may try this MOD. Not much of a changes and it works with EasyMOD (*)

(*) (Suggestion for users of EasyMOD) Remember to unpack and upload the MOD's file to a folder like admin/mods/display_html.

Simple but Great MOD

Post by erivera »

Thanks Nux,

This MOD is what I was looking for!
It works perfectly and now all my guest users can see HTML posts instead of ugly posts with HTML tags :D

Thanks again!

My guess is you didn't enabled tags you used (that's in ACP). You still need to allow all tags you wish to use and tick the "enable HTML in this post" field when posting.

Additionally after you posted a post with HTML you may disable all tags and everything should still display fine.

If you'll still have problems, please post a link to your forum with the example.

Mystery solved :) - you should have given only names of the tags in the ACP - like this:

Code: Select all

b,i,u,pre,p,img
It will probably work after you'll fix it.

It worked with 2.0.21 so I guess it will work with 2.0.22 as there aren't many changes really.

As for the second question - I'm not sure what do you mean? The nolink, nofollow is only for bots and when you register you can still set your page in your profile. So links/pages of active users will get indexed (and followed) as they will be visible in many topics - you can think of this as a gift for most active users.

I've applied it to a 2.0.21 version and it works perfect. The MOD is simple and easy even for manual installation.

Thank you, Nux. :)
