Category || My Forum

not
~ You'll see the drop down menu beside Category/Forum. Click on that and scroll to find the forum that you want the sub-forum to go into.

That drop down menu is right beside the Category/Forum.
All you have to do is go into your ACP, go to Forum Admin, then click on Management. Once in Forum Admin, you can click on any of the "Create New Forum" buttons... doesn't matter which one. That takes you to General Forum Settings.

You see Forum name and a box
Forum description and a box
Category/forum and a dropdown menu beside it.
forum status with a drop down menu
Auto pruning.

IF you don't have that drop-down menu next to the Category/Forum... then your mod isn't installed correctly... sorry hun.
Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Left Admin menu gone

Post by haktanir »

After I installed this mod, the left menu of the administration is gone.

Any suggestions?

Hmm...

I installed this mod with the BlueTabs template and I can create subforums etc. alright.

However, I can't link to them from their parent forum- only from the forum index. How can I link to them from their parent forum? E.g. I have a subforum known as 'Caption Competition' in 'Tea Break.' I want it to link to teh 'Caption Competition' subforum from the 'Tea Break' board.

That means the column has already been created - so you should be fine ;)

If you don't get any other errors you don't have to worry about this one.

URL: http://www.fevahost.com/test/
Template(s) used: SubSilver
Any and all MODs: eXtreme Styles v2.1.0, Simple Subforums Mod 1.0.0
Do you use a port of phpBB: No
Version of phpBB: 2.0.18
Version of PHP: Unknown
Which database server and version: MySQL v3.23.58
Host: Network Solutions
Did someone install this for you/who: No
Is this an upgrade/from what to what: No
Is this a conversion/from what to what: No
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: A search for "line 1008", "parse error unexpected $" or "viewforum.php parse" comes up with a blank page.. "testing 123" works though - real useful. :? (no quotes included in searches)

State the nature of your problem:

Any attempted use of viewforum.php returns the following error: Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /data/8/0/71/57/560057/user/571407/htdocs/test/viewforum.php on line 1008. My viewforum.php has only 1008 lines, the last is of course "?>". I can only assume that an error giving the last line of the file as the location of error must relate to some kind of unterminated string or variable or something... I've triple-checked my modifications and can't seem to find the problem though :( All other parts of the forum (admin, privmsg, etc) work flawlessly. The only other thing I can think of that may be worth mentioning is that I use the prefix "test_" rather than "phpbb_" in the database used for this forum, and that there is an existing forum using the same database with phpbb_ tables.. Also I realize (now :?) that this is not the latest version of eXtreme Styles - I got 2.10 from the first post in this thread: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=125251 which is linked to in the Simple Subforums 1.0.0 install doc, it might be an idea to add a link to the latest (2.21 or so) in the first post to avoid people using outdated versions?

Do you have a test account for us: Works with anonymous access.

My Viewforum.php: http://www.fevahost.com/test/docs/viewforum.txt

I'm not picky - I don't really need this error nutted out, if someone can provide a (trustworthy) link to a premade 2.0.18 phpBB + Simple Subforums package then that's good enough for me ;)

I am aware that the Category Heirarchy mod can be added with minimal manual editing, but I want only a very basic subforums feature and it would take me longer to remove the other 'features' if I used that solution..

Thanks for any advice! :D

Okay, after a bit more hunting around, I've come across this:

http://custombuiltsoftware.co.uk/downlo ... 8_V1.2.zip

Trying it now!

Download is courtesy of UseLess of http://www.phpbbstyles.com/ - his comment:
UseLess wrote: read the 'readme_1st.txt' file which tells you how to install it. Included are;

- pre-modded phpBB 2.0.18 system files (and the update file is there, thanks Greyface )
- pre-modded styles;
-- Artemis 1.4 (includes the missing pink 'folder_new_big.gif' image)
-- Aphrodite 1.4

also included is a database update script, simply upload it to the root of your forum and run it, you MUST be logged in and have admin rights to run this script.

Very Important No support will be given for these files, either use them or don't it's your choice you can always install the mod yourself.

If the link is broken, try http://custombuiltsoftware.co.uk/downlo ... misc_mods/

Hope this works, and maybe it'll help some other ppl too ;)

EDIT: This file is for NEW forums only! If you have any other mods installed this will not work for you, cause errors, cause wierdness, or undo your previous work - use only if you are reinstalling/first setting up your forum ;)

http://www.phpbbstyles.com/viewtopic.php?t=10228

See there for more info on that download...

My step-by-step instructions on how to make this work:

- Unzip unmodified PhpBB 2.0.18 to your host
- Install PhpBB 2.0.18 as per install instructions, chmodding config.php etc..
- Unzip eXtreme Styles 2.2.1 and upload files in 'root' folder to your phpbb installed directory on your host (eg, to www.mysite.com/forum/)
- Unzip Aphrodite (original blue) or Artemis (original) (demos here and here) and upload to your /templates/ directory as per their included documentation
- Unzip Premodded PhpBB 2.0.18 + Simple Subforums 1.2 and upload the replacement files to your host (check documentation of course)
- Run the db_update.php file as per the included readme_1st.txt
- Under "eXtreme Styles> Styles Management" in Admin Control Panel, click "Install Styles" and install the Aphrodite or Artemis style
- Set the installed style to the default and override user settings (if they use subSilver they won't see the subforums properly)
- Under "Forum Admin> Management", create your categories/forums/subforums as you want them
- Backup!
- Good luck installing other mods

Checking my own instructions by following them again now - if anyone sees something I missed, please feel free to correct me ;)

P.S: Part of the reason I was having so many problems with this is that I thought only the Heirarchy mod required XS, and that SS or this premod didn't :(
