Has anyone figured out how to add multiple levels of sub-forums for this MOD (i.e. sub-forums of sub-forums)? I know about the CH MOD, but am really hoping for something that doesn't have all the extras and just adds sub-forums to the vanilla version. I think it would be an awesome addition for the community if someone could come up with something like that, seeing as how phpbb3 probably won't be out for quite some time.

help with subforum mod?

Post by mistymm77 » Mon Sep 04, 2006 1:58 am

I installed XS and then the subforum mod, but it seems that I cant get any of my forum to work properly now. in forum admin, my admin index has no icons or anything. The side menu bar works fine. when I go to forum management it shows the categories, but not the forums. everything else in admin seems to work properly. On the actual forum the index page works, but if you click on a forum to read it, it says "this forum has been marked "read" " and won't let you veiw any of the messages. If you click on search you get this error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/misty/public_html/attachmentparentsofcentralflorida/forum/search.php on line 1452 as well as if you go to "view posts since last visit" everything else seems to be working, except that i cannot add subforums because in my admin it doesn't even show the existing forums. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Misty

If you can't find the closing style tag, then your template probably does not put the CSS into the overall_header. You will have to edit templates/cov_jb/cov_jb.css
LA-Fairy wrote: well i looked for closing tag....but the css is noted in the overallheader.tpl file see here...so do i still need to edit it?

That line has to be there. It is possible that another MOD has modified it. Look for

Code: Select all

$last_post .= '<a href="' . append_sid("viewtopic.$phpEx?" . POST_POST_URL
to see if you can find it.

and yes..i added the last post

I'm getting this error after reinstalling three times:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/username/public_html/phpBB/viewforum.php on line 1021

Here's line 1015-1021

Code: Select all

//
// Page footer
//
include($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/page_tail.'.$phpEx);

?>
Thanks.

Here are lines 1004 to 1023. I'd post my whole php page, but I don't want to be scolded. :roll:

Code: Select all

				'U_VIEWFORUM' => append_sid("viewforum.$phpEx?" . POST_FORUM_URL . "=$subforum_id"))
			);

		}
	}
}

// End Simple Subforums MOD
//
// Parse the page and print
//
$template->pparse('body');

//
// Page footer
//
include($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/page_tail.'.$phpEx);

?>
[/code]

Need help, not sure what's wrong

Post by mistymm77 » Mon Sep 04, 2006 11:50 pm

I've managed to get it where everything seems to work on the forum side, with one exception. When I designate the parent forum/subforum relationship, on the actual forum it doesn't move it, it still shows the subforum like a regular forum. at the top it will show as a subforum (example: attachmentparentsofcentralflorida -> helpdesk -> issues with forum at the top, but yet, when you go to main page, it shows "issues with forum" as a forum under the category "attachment parts of central florida". I don't even know what file controls this to know where to look to fix it. Also, the only other issue I'm having is my admin index is messed up, no icons or information or anything on it, but the left side menu bar works fine. If anyone can give me a heads up on which files I need to look in to fix these two issues I'd *really* appreciate it.

Thanks!
Misty

edit: update ok so I fixed the issue with the forums not moving, but still have the problem in admin. any heads up would be appreciated.

thanks!

take out the "while" at the beginning and you'll find it, it's a typo and was addressed several other times in this thread, find the link someone posted a few pages back about this, as it links to several corrections that are necessary. hth

You are missing a closing brace somewhere in your file. Recheck your edits very, very carefully.

I would have to say either admin/admin_forums.php or templates/{your_template_name}/admin/forum_admin_body.tpl is not edited correctly.

Thanks I looked all through and then started with a fresh admin_forums.php and re-edited it but it didn't fix the problem. I compared admin_forums.php original file with the edited file through beyond compare but all the edits were correct. I didn't look in forum_admin_body.tpl, I'll do that and see if it fixes my problem.

Thanks!

Check modcp.php, templates/{your_template}/modcp_split.tpl and templates/{your_template}/modcp_body.tpl to see if the edits have been made properly.

I forgot to have you check templates/{your_template}/modcp_move.tpl. The other files look fine.
