[MODDB] View All Posts Sorted By Time

FAQs
Q. Uhh...what exactly is this good for?
A. Here's an example. You go on a business trip for a week and can't check your forums. However, you do check your PMs just once near the end of your trip. When you get back, all the posts that were made between the time you left and you checked your PMs will be marked as read. You can manually go to each forum and select the posts made in the last week, or you can just use this handy little MOD. :)

Q. Can I add my own amount of time to search for like 17.8 days?
A. Yes, though I don't know why you'd want to search for an odd time period like that. ;)
Here's what you'd need to do:
1. Open templates/subSilver/index_body.tpl
2. Create your own option like this:
<option value="seconds">Time period description</option>

Replace seconds with the total number of seconds to search for.
For example, to get the number of seconds in one week, multiply 60 (seconds) * 60 (minutes) * 24 (hours) * 7 (days) = 604800 (seconds).
Replace Time period description with something like "Week".
Completed example:
<option value="604800">Week</option>

3. Now just add that bit of code anywhere between the <select....> and </select> tags in the code in this MOD.

Code: Select all

nice mod, and quick install

i love this feature, as people don't like it when they accidentally log out, and lose their new posts icons...now they can just sort for however long they've been away in case that happens

ty penta

Does it work for guests? say, if I want to create a page that lists posts from last 12 hours, irrespective of who the user is.. logged in or not.

Hi.
Yes, it works for guests as well.

Believe it or note, I made this MOD a while before I ever saw his.
They are both similar in usage but IMHO mine is a little easier to install and customize.

Not sure why but it just tells me no topics or posts met your search criteria. Normal searching still works fine, just this method produces nothing :?

Hi.
Double check your edits in search.php VERY CAREFULLY!
Honestly, search.php is kinda tricky to MOD since there are a few IN-LINE actions, so you might have made a small typo in there somewhere.

Thanks for the MOD. I installed it onto a dummy site running 2.0.21 and it went in just fine. I expect to go live with it in the next few days.

I'd previously hacked 2.0.18 to view all posts sorted by time, but this MOD, enabling the member to select different time periods, is much better.

Cheers a bunch,
Rob
