I installed this mod today, but "mass add spam words" doesn't work well.
For example, if I type
"*o-*beep*.com*,*ofigeno.net*",
"beep","com","net","o-","ofigeno" are added to the list. :(

Do you have any idea to fix it?
Yes, I have already posted a fix for that.
Where? Please post a link to the posting.

I LOVE this MOD, thanks a lot for it.

I have noticed that intentional spammers invariably have numerous instances of the spam words in their post. I'm quite sure that they are only counted as one post, total because I have left the default of 3 posts to auto-ban the person. I have two posts today by different spammers that have numerous occurrences of spam words in each post and neither poster was auto-banned.

Is there any way that a person can be banned if their post contains a certain number of occurrences of spam words? I think that would be helpful to have a more perfect recognition of true spam and not end up banning a member who for example says "I hate porn!"

Thanks Joe

How is this different from the word censor mod ? Can anybody tell me ? And also does it get rid of spam words in urls. Does it get rid of spam words in both the following places ?

Have you tried spamword its the best

In the above text a spamword , mentioned in bold , occurs both in the url as well as the text that is highlighted and takes you to the url when clicked.Does this mod remove the spamword from both these places ?

Automatically banned users question

Post by threeeyedtoad »

I've recently begun using this mod on my phpBB v. 2.0.22, and I'm already a very big fan. The only shortcoming I've found is in regards to how the "Number of offenses before user is automatically banned" setting works. I've tried setting this to a value of "1", and this seems to allow a single post "grace". If the user tries making a second post with an offending spam word, then they are banned. So, it takes two offending posts before a user is banned. I would prefer that as soon as a user attempts to make a post that contains a spam word, they are immediately banned (first offending post).

This seems to seems to have been briefly discussed a couple of places in this thread, notably here:

http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 5#p4300585

I made the change described there to "root\includes\spamwords.php" (changing > to >= in line 225), but it still does not seem to ban users after a single offensive post using a spam word.

Any thoughts?

I tried it in my forum and it works fine. But it does not seem to be banning the user even after 5 posts and I have set it to "ban after one post". Plus the display error message feature does not seem to be working though the flag and hide method works.

I installed it on phpBB 2.0.19. Installed it using EasyMOD.

Has anybody else done it in phpBB 2.0.19 and have the come across similar issues ?

This is indeed a great mod.It makes the phpBB a usable software.I have finally unlocked my community and registered users can post now. I am not sure why spam protection is not included in phpBB forum software. When I asked this question I was told that it was because it was not a security issue and I had to use mods to stop spam. Its like going to a car dealer and getting a chassis and told to install roofs and doors and upholstry later. The chassis is perfectly engineered and so I should be satisfied with it.But a chassis not a car.

Forums dedicated to religious issues and children's forums need real good protection from spammers and it is surprising the phpBB comm of developers are not aware of the seriousness of the issue here. They should realise that their phpBB forum software releases are practically unusable.

MOD is essential to have a workable forum.

MOD should be only for bells and whistles and not for basic protection and functionality.

phpBB should release two versions everytime. One the pure chassis which is completely useless and another one that is premodded with math question or humanizer mod to stop spambots and this mod by joe belmatti and also the one that prohibits posting links until you have posted so many number of posts. Users should be free to turn on and off any one of these or all of them according to their needs.
Love & Regards,
Harish Kumar.
