Re: [2.0.20] SQL Backup

Post by Ant397 »

Looks like a very good mod, wish i'd found it earlier!

However, I have installed the mod following the steps described and I have a little issue...

When I go to the admin panel, I get the following message:

Template->make_filename(): Error - file admin/backup_body.tpl does not exist

any ideas?

OK, solved that one, I have a different template in use, so I uploaded the files there as well...

Now I can get to the table selection page, but when I click 'create backup', I get the following message:

Warning: fopen(backups/08e29938cc0363a6b058b77b24a16865_tasks.dat) [function.fopen.php]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in e:\domains\antandpete.co.uk\wwwroot\phpbb2\admin\admin_backup.php on line 161

Any ideas as to a fix?

If you need it, line 161 of admin_backup reads: $tasks_handle = fopen('backups/' . $userdata['session_id'] . '_tasks.dat', 'w+');

You are required to create a directory called backups in the admin directory and into that it stores the backups in. Have you done that?
You are required to chmod that directory to 777 - have you done that.

Go to the directory with your ftp client and right click the folder.
Depending on your ftp client you are looking for CHMOD/Permissions/Properties
Select that option and either enter 777 or tick all options.

OK, changed the backups folder to 777, still get the same error.

I have also noticed now that when I first access the ACP, where it usualy gives the forum database info ect, it now says HTTP 500 in that area... the menu is still visable and usable down the side, but it only changes from HTTP 500 once I press refresh a few times.

Well the error is certainly saying that the backup directory has the incorrect permissions on it.
"failed to open stream: Permission denied"
Please go back to your site with your ftp and check:
You have a directory called "backups" note all lower case
That this directory is inside the "admin" folder that is in the root of your board (Not the admin directory in your style folder)
That the permissions on this directory are still set at 777

Nope, the permissions are no longer set to 777...

Everytime I change them and log out, they have reverted back when I log back in...

I have tried 2 different FTP programs also.

So this may well be the problem then ?

Any other ideas?

Yes.
Contact your host and tell them that permissions are not sticking and ask them to chmod that directory to 777

at the end instructions says
#
#-----[ DIY INSTRUCTIONS ]----------------------------------------
#
IIS users: the /admin/backups/ folder is protected using a .htaccess file, which probably won't work on IIS. You will have to make sure that this directory cannot be accessed by visitors of your website

wht does this mean?

Re: [2.0.20] SQL Backup

i have one more confusion

1. when i use ur mod for backup - it amounts to arnd 11MB . but when i backup using the default backup option within phpbb admin cp - it amounts to hardly 364kb :o so whts the matter? such a HUGE difference. is evrything right with my forum

2. is there any auto backup option. like some software which would take backup regularly lets say once a week and store it.

3. wht does this backup mean? does it mean tht if som1 gets access to my ftp and deletes whole thing , i can use this backup to bring my forum back to same state again? tht would be lot of peace of mind :) sorry if im stupid , bt i realy dont know meaning of BACKUP

not working - help!

Post by HeatherCD »

I cannot get a successful backup. Here is the error I get:

Warning: rename(backups/62ee11fca84117e70f5f4bea80b69bb7_backup.sql,backups/sql_1200399592.sql) [function.rename]: No such file or directory in /mounted-storage/home37c/sub002/sc29675-EMTT/therainbowlounge.org/forum/admin/admin_backup.php on line 421

I can see a .dat file being created (24kb) in the backups folder but that is it.
