[2.0.20] registration disable website signature

Ya, I saw that...I replied to the thread as well.

You can go back and look through the original thread for it...there seemed to be a lot of happy users with it.

Hi,

I have used the remove website scripts and not sure if I did something wrong.

It all works, but when I log-out, the microsoft internet explorer pop-up window appears with no text in it, just OK or Cancel.

Not sure if this related to anything else?

There shouldn't be anything in this mod that would do that at all...

What version of phpBB are you using, and do you have any other mods installed?

Are you sure that it didn't do this before you added my mod? It might have come from a different mod you installed, or mabey a corrupt file...

I have upgraded from 2.0.19 to 2.0.20

I cant remember if I had installed any updates or not, maybe I have.

I did change templates at some stage.

Maybe I should install a fresh installation and start from scratch.

If your database is as 2.0.20 and you don't have any mods installed that you don't mind reinstalling(or losing)...
Delete all the phpBB2 files on your server except for config.php and the images/ folder...
Upload a fresh set ot 2.0.20 files (dont overwrite the config.php or the images...and don't upload the install or contrib folder(they are not needed for this))

Then everything whould be back to default...with all your old posts and users.

They are being sneaky now. Not using website or sig fields but locations and such...

Can you add one more configurable feature? It would be nice if we could choose to have it put the ban in place for a certain length of time only.

I have no idea how to do something like that...I would guess that adding that would severely lengthen my mod...remember...you don't need to ban the IP...if they enter in something in the sig/website fields, they are not allowed to register either way...so banning the IP most likely won't help...though it may keep the guy that uses that IP from manually visiting your site...

No need to automatically delete them...when they fill something in, they are not allowed to register anyways...so none of their info goes in. 8)

You must not have installed it right...because with this mod there is no way someone can register and have a website link in their website section or have anything in their signature section.

I would go through and check everything over again that was modded.

If you want to ban the bot's IP address when they are denied, 
  make sure you change the $ban_ip = false; to $ban_ip = true;
  If you don't know how to do that, 
  open:
  includes/usercp_register.php

  find:
  $ban_ip = false;

  replace with:
  $ban_ip = true;


  This is not necessary, as the bot won't be allowed to register anyways,
  but if you want it to auto-ban that IP, go ahead...

The strangest thing...after installing this mod, I am now getting just as many bots registering (around 15 a day) but they are now simply not submitting sig or website details!

Their entries for all fields are blank...I don't see the point in this? maybe they plan to bot back later to add them if i dont delete them?

Yes, it does support 2.0.20...thats what is in the name of it...

That is possible...I would look into some other mods to help stop them as well.

I would try [Beta] ConfusaBOT lite and possibly [BETA]Better Captcha...those should help some more.
