Hello I am also sick and tired of forum spam

I have two kinds of spammer

1. site who only want to promote there URL in de the memberlist

2. bots who register completely, change there email adres. wait for a week an then start spamming the forum on all available places.

Last sort of spambots now wait until there are 5 - 10 fake users registered and then start ALL spamming the forum

I am running version 2.0.21

QUESTIONS

1. do I have to upgrade to the next official version to improve Visual Confirmation or other anti spam defense

2. or can I install the suggested registration MOD

If (2) I downloaded the suggested MOD from the FIRST message

3. which one should I install, upgr from 1.0.1, 1.0.3 or website signature remove 1.1.11  (this realy shows my level)

Maybe this is not the place, or maybe this suggestion is already given many times or maybe this is already in the next release  ...........

Is it possible to ask a question during registration. The answer will be numerical or a string.

The systems administrator should be able to change this question.

Registration will only succeed if you know the answer to the question.

In this way the registration forum could start with a question like

What is de color of gras?

only green will be the correct reply

or

10 + 11 =?

Every forum is in this way "different"

Would this also too easy for a SPAMBOT?

1. 2.0.22 has no better protection for spam.

2. What mod is that? :?

3. What do you think? The ones with upgrade in their name are for upgrading from older versions. ;)

As for your other post, yes, there are mods like that out, search the mods database.

Hello,
Will the automatically banned IP's show up in the ban list under Ban Control? (that I could un-ban if needed?)

Thanks

Hello EXreaction I will install tomorrow, but.........

I noticed that the last month I get other types of SPAMBOTS on my forum

1. they register

2. do not provide a web page URL

3. execute the confirmation cycle

4. wait for 2 - 3 weeks

5. and then start SPAMMING the forum with 10 - 20 messages

I hope this is old news and that the phpBB will provide an answer to these attacks.

Well, yes, every month or two a new round of much stronger spam bots seem to come around. Just recently I have noticed them getting much more problematic again.

What if the spambots start targetting email in the forum.

spambot register, wait 2 weeks, start sending email to forum users who enabled this.

that will be really HELL for forum admins!!

Any experience with this kind of spam?

It is possible, but I have never seen it happen.

Your missing the topic_notify.tpl email template file.

It should be in language/lang_english/email/(or something like that). You need to upload the file to your server.
