MarkDHamill wrote: The only thing you can do is show new topics only. If you select by Post Date/Time that should retrieve the first message as well as any replies for new topics only. However, it won't limit it to JUST the first post of the new topic.

However, if you are integrating the feed into something else you could write a little program, say using the MagpieRSS parser, to only pick the first item.

So there is no way to only show the topics without replies?

Not with the software as is.

Remember it was written to answer a general need for an authenticated newsfeed, not for your case which is somewhat unusual.

To create a public newsfeed URL with Smartfeed, log out and then generate the URL, otherwise the public may get access to protected forums ... not a good idea.

There is a slightly newer version of Smartfeed available off my web site. I would apply the latest bug patches posted here though since it will be a while before I publish a corrected version.

Sounds like you want a different RSS mod than Smartfeed. There are others out there. This one is specifically designed to handle authentication to private or restricted forums. One consequence is that it tends to write "wordy" URLs. This is necessary because phpBB must authenticate you in one URL, so that means identifying your user ID and encrypting your password.

The length of the URL is really not a concern to a web server. It may look big if you show it as plain text.

Hello,

I have an interesting problem:

Code: Select all

 Error in your SmartFeed URL
There is an error in the URL you used to retrieve this newsfeed. As a result, no content can be returned. Use this error information as a guide to correcting the problem. Please note that you must use this program to create a URL that can be used with SmartFeed. The error is: Limit parameter is not a recognized value.
This is the URL I entered at the other website as the RSS feed:
http://www.mysite.com/forum/smartfeed.p ... y=standard
(it's the standard URL created when being logged out).

Any idea how to fix that?

The problem is:

Code: Select all

limit=LF
I would get a new URL using smartfeed_url.php and try again. Have you upgraded recently?

Hi Mark,

thanks a lot for the fast response. Meanwhile I checked various things and no - it doesn't help when I remove the LF parameter and reinstall all files.

I sent you a PM containing various details.

thanks,
richey
