There are a few MODs which are such that they don't make use of or depend on core phpBB code, and so those MODs can elect to use a non-GPL license if they so choose. (Obviously, their license has to allow phpBB.com to distribute their MOD if they submit it!) However, this probably applies to less than 1% of MODs, the rest of the MOD authors are required by the terms of the GPL to release their MOD under GPL.

Ah, i see. I thought that GPL was a moddb requirement, but i just checked and that's not the case. :)

To answer my own question, if you want to use this tool to convert a phpbb3RC5 mod to modx v 1.0.1 with a prosilver stylesheet, the following seems to work:

1. run this tool the regular way on a .txt file

2. in the mod folder, replace modx.subsilver.en.xsl with the latest version of modx.prosilver.en.xsl (as of the time of this post the latest version is here: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/modx/1.0.1/mo ... ver.en.xsl )

3. open up your mod's xml file (the one that this tool creates) and do the following:

Code: Select all

FIND
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="modx.subsilver.en.xsl"?>

REPLACE WITH
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="modx.prosilver.en.xsl"?>

FIND
<mod xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://www.phpbb.com/mods/xml/modx-1.0.xsd">

REPLACE WITH
<mod xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://www.phpbb.com/mods/xml/modx-1.0.1.xsd">

FIND
        <target-primary>2.0.0</target-primary>
        <target-major allow="exact">2</target-major>
        <target-minor allow="exact">0</target-minor>

REPLACE WITH
        <target-primary>3.0.RC5</target-primary>
        <target-major allow="exact">3</target-major>
        <target-minor allow="exact">0</target-minor>
I am guessing there is a more straightforward way to do this...smithy, what's the trick?

Also, it would be useful if this tool were to copy the license file so you didn't need to do that manually.

That's what I have been doing, but when you have lots of XML file to edit (e.g. language or template specific XML files), this becomes quite a task ;)

I'm still hoping there's a easy way to configure the executable to so it automatically.

Is there a way to use this for modx 1.2.0? Or is there another tool that will convert text formatted phpbb3 mods to modx?

I read somewhere that that convertor is for phpbb2 and will not work for phpbb3 or for modx1.2.0. Is that incorrect?

Ok, I just tried that convertor. I see that it is 1.2.0 prosilver (good!), but I also see that it is totally unusable for me. It loses all formatting (the entire xml file - every line - is flush to the left). Moreover, it totally runs on all my author notes so that it is one big mess. And, it skips the detail in the version history info. I'll explore further to see if I can figure out what's going on.

Please report any bugs with the online convertor to the website tracker and attach the MOD file you were using.

Thanks, evil<3. I will do that, but first I figured that I would post a topic about this so that others can confirm the problem and rule out the very real possibility that the problem is due to my own error. See http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1093615
