I've gotta say now, this MOD used to stop just about all the spambots up until about a month ago. Now it looks like they've got smart and stopped filling out the profile info. I'm getting about 1 bot every other day now.

Try Textual Confirmation (by clicking here) in addition to this mod.

The two together are unstoppable.

My security question is, "What is the two-digit number of tarot cards in a standard tarot deck"? The registrant must know not only what a two-digit number is, but also that the correct answer is "78". You could use something equally simple, scuh as "What is the three-digit number of days in a year", etc.

Gotta say I love this MOD! It's works as it says. I've had it installed for about 3-4 months now and haven't had 1 Spam Bot sign up, and it blocked around 300 attempts so far!

Love it!!!

Sorry, my English is bad but I will explain simply. What you must do:

1. With FTP client must upload file spambot_notify.tpl on your board in folder language/lang_english/email/spambot_notify.tpl.
2. Before Adding This MOD To Your Forum, You Should Back Up All Files Related To This MOD.
3. Copy templates/subSilver/profile_add_body.tpl, includes/usercp_register.php and language/lang_english/lang_main.php in your PC.
4. With text editor like notepad open files and follow author's install notes.
5. Save all 3 files, upload them on your board and replace originals.
That is all. If you don't make errors, you don't have a troubles.

Good luck!

I have an older forum that's 2.0.8, and it works great, have zero issues with it. I desperately need to add an anti-spambot to it because the last 6 months I've been slammed with them. (Forum has been up for 3-4 years, so I was shocked I wasn't hit way before now.) Right now I've turned sign ups to admin-approval, so at least the spammers never get far enough along to post spam on the forum.

The question is, will this work with my version of the forum? I have zero desire to upgrade the forum because it would be a HUGE undertaking given the version I have. I've seen several variations of signups where all the fields are filled, and recently none of the fields are filled. But I can always tell it's a spammer because the timezone never changes, which shows it being 12 hours off of the default forum timezone.)

Any information is appreciated, thank you!

your first problem is you are running a version that is at least 2 years old... you should update to the latest version of phpbb then install some MODs that help you with stopping spambots from registering.

I dont think anyone is going to be willing to write a MOD to do this for such an old version of phpbb

I wasn't asking someone to make a custom mod for my version, I was simply asking if this mod would work with the version I have. Clearly you're saying no. Gah I don't want to go through the hassle of upgrading this forum, it was a pain in the butt the first time around.

Had this mod installed for a week now and it works beautifully, stopping between 5 and 10 spambot registrations a day.

Thanks Martian.

just installed this mod, everything looks to have went okay. But when i go to my site and attempt to sign up as a new member, i don't see the field that is suposed to stop the SPAM BOTS... the don't type here field. This is my first MOD i've ever installed so i'm sure i'm missing somthing. is there a section in the controle panel that deals with all your MODS?

Is your default style NOT subSilver? If so you need to de the edits that you did to the subSilver style to the default one

My default style is ACIDTECH and I did the edits to that style. Is the "don't type here" field going to be visible to someone signing up?? or does it just work in the back ground? were on the control panel are MODS going to show up and allow you to edit them? (sorry, my first MOD)

Some MODs add sections to the ACP, but this one doesn't.

It should be visible like the example here: http://www.smartian.net/stop-spambot-registration/
