Release Notes:

Well, like you can gues this is realy coresponding to version 4.90 in the original sf.net project.
For some time I use latest version of Ubuntu (Linux) for bugtraking and optimizing "my" projects and I made a lot of logical changes after at first release this was compiled only for Windows Vista and Server 2008 with partial compatibility with XP.

After I made a advanced research on how Microsoft programs are optimized for diffrent Windows Versions specily 98, and not just for Windows, I decided to optimize this version of notepad++ so that will run on all Windows Versions starting with Windows 95 wich has Internet Explorer 5.5 installed and to work with latest version of Wine under Linux wich may allso be supported by the generic version. ;)

This was posible couse notepad++ is only including GNU features and not features build in Windows wich could make the code and binany be very compact like the Windows Notepad. But I commed to the conclusion that is nonsens to build a program wich do not use any Windows build code to run only with the last version of Windows, specialy a GNU program. Plus this was very easy only requiring some elegant optimizations based on public domain informations. For this reason and other resons the source code was released in same package.

I didn't included a installer in this release couse in Windows it's very easy to create a desktop shortcut, but someone can request this. Of course this will add a nice desktop icon to the GNOME Desktop too. :)

Since phpBB2 is starting to die and more users are upgrading to Olympus, I'm maintaining this tool for MXP CMS here. ;)

cherokee red wrote:Whenever you edit a language file, you need to use a good text editor that can save with encoding UTF-8(w/o BOM), such as Notepad++. The Windows Notepad will save as UTF-8(w/BOM), causing those errors.
I found out from Kenny that notepad++ is a must for anybody who wants to add mods to their phpBB3 installation because the phpBB3 language files will not tolerate edit from standard notepad

I downloaded notepad++ but my computer will not use it as default

it always opens standard notepad and FTP always opens standard notepad and I have a hell of a time bringing notepad++ into use because my computer seems determined to hold on to the old notepad no matter what

if the language files are edited in standard notepad you'll soon find out :( and it's not pretty :x

Other extensions can be asociated from Explorer like this:

To edit files direct from ftp try using a real file manager for example Total Commander, here you can edit files direct on ftp is you whan't using F4 key. The default editor F4 key can be other then the one asociated with .php files like in this pic:
