[DEV] In-Email MOD

Post by Ornette » Sun Jun 29, 2008 7:36 pm

Modification Name: In-Email
Author: Ornette

Modification Description: This mod is for retrieving emails into a forum
Modification Version: 0.0.2

Requirements: There are no requirements yet but I think some of the mail routines may demand this...

Features:
This MOD is to do what it says on the tin!
Exasperated by the complexity of Mail2Forum i decided attempt the make of my own mod that would do the basics and not include the kitchen sink.
I've just seen this thread - http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 16&t=12414 - i hope I'm not re-inventing the wheel here!
  1. Import emails from a mailbox - POP3/IMAP/WebDAV?/MBOX?/Gmail?
  2. Allow remote feeds of email - to allow mail retrieve script to reside on another server
  3. Allows accounts to be defined for each mail retrieve / mail feed
  4. Allow automatic scheduling by checking accounts linked to that forum in viewforum.php (but also external scheduling)
  5. Allow reply to email through phpBB - defined by 3 permission levels - Private, Mod or Admin - and then post that 'reply' also as reply to the thread
  6. Special header on In-Email received mails / send mails in viewtopic.php to clearly show whether topic post is a incoming or outgoing post
In-Email is made up of 4 files - admin_in_email.php, in_email_select_body.tpl, in_email_edit_body.tpl, and in_email.php which contains the logic / script to retrieve mails or accept mail feeds

Modification Download: in_email_0.0.2.rar
v0.0.2 - This mod is still being figured out by myself functionality wise, and I made a whole lot of changes this morning which has probably broken its current functionality, but here is my current work in progress.

I would like to help out in testing this script for PHPBB 3.0.x... I am in need of this to populate a restricted read only section on my board... please advise if I could help out.

Thanks for your work!

Sorry, I've not done any work on this for a couple of weeks.

I would defo appreciate any help. Currently, I have more or less figured out how the backend should operate, and I have also done some work towards a simple e-mail parser that will split the header from the body, and then seperate the plain text part out of the email.

What I have not managed to start work on is the part to actually retrieve mails from an external source. One stumbling block is that on my server (GoDaddy), the imap functions are not supported, which I suspect may be a stumbling block for a good few others too. Any help that anyone can offer on polling (typically a) POP3 mailbox would be very much appreciated.

I have options in the backend to 'select' also IMAP, HTTP, GMAIL & Exchange, not too sure how far I will get to implementing any of those though...
