MD pro-forum

Post by danyblue »

Yes,

i have made some tests and most of the functions are running, there are some little problems with paths, but i have not yet decide if to make it included in the POSTNUKE support or if to include it as a separate option.

I have not yet setup a demo site, because i had no time, but CM2F is able to import the messages in POSTNUKE mode.

RC 04 Status

Post by danyblue »

Hi all,

The RC 4 version is proving to be stable. There are already PHPNUKE, POSTNUKE and MAMBO installations.
I would like to have more installations, specially PHPBB as standalone, in order to see how it behaves.
The are still some small glitches but that are not blocking the functionalities of the mod.

The installation script is now working correctly and it setups the configuration files and database correctly.

As users are starting to import the messages in their forum they are starting as well to need the Forum2Mail integration that is starting to be tested aswell, i am not expecting a lot of problems here.

I am also starting to review the code that i have written right in the beginning, while still working in my initial version M2F, to integrate M2F and the article systems of the CMS or the blogs. This will allow to have the first message in a thread as the article/news itself, and the following messages in the thread to be like comments.

Cm2F RC 04 V4 REleased

Post by danyblue »

Hello all,

I have just release CM2F RC 04 Build 28 Feb 2005.

It solves some of the path problems that where creating some problems with some minor links and some icons not being displayed.

It changes also the subscription and bayes categories management, which i think is now more logic and direct. Checked=Enabled, unchecked=Disabled.

It solves also the problems that was happening with some of the versions that were not going over the first page of the installation.

It has also been tested with PHPNUKE 7.6 and BBtoNuke 2.0.12 and it has ran effectively without errors.

I am now checking it with POSTNUKE .760 and the last verision of PNPhpBB2.

Please download it at www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org .

Attachment mode being ready

Post by danyblue »

Hello all,

a part from keeping correcting some minor bugs with CM2F, i am finishing the attachment enabling, that will allow to manage attachments.

As for the CM2F, flexibility is a key concern, and the feature will be based on the same running mode than CM2F:

Direct --- Attachments directly moded to forum
Moderated ---- Attachments moved based on moderator decision
Userbase --- set privileges associated with users.

I am tuning the detection mechanism of the attachment mode and improving the statistics details in order to gives a useful tool that can be integrated with the other reporting mechanisms of CM2F.

The application is moving ahead quite fast now, there a lot of users installing and running it without major problems.

An improved manual has been released that helps understanding how to install, configure and manage CM2F, and a new version is being finished.

So, why don't you join us?

D.

Hi,

This Cm2F system looks promising but there appear to be a few bugs. Firstly, let me appologise if some answers are on the website, but when I goto:

http://www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org/

I get a download dialog, this is the same for Firefox and IE. However, I can get to the site via another very slow link and using lynx, which is very nasty :( Weird!

Anyhow, I'm running phpBB2 2.0.13 and installed the RC 04 download. Here's some things I notice:

- On the subscribe page (m2f_subscribe.php) there's no real text to speak of to let people know what they are doing - is this intentional?
- Also on subscribe the radio buttons for text/html all appear to be in the same group. Hence, you cannot check more than one of these across all forums and this causes the submit to fail if you've checked more than one forum to subscribe to.
- I don't like the images in the admin panel but can't figure out how to remove them yet.

All this is the same on the demo board:

http://cm2f.digitalgraal.dyndns.org/

Am assuming there is some doco on that site I mention above, will check back later and see if I can see it. What I'd like to do, BTW, is have a single POP mailbox where messages for multiple addresses end up, ie:

MOD-Development-Forum@domain.com
Foo-Forum@domain.com

Dunno how replies and stuff to topics work, but I don't get this baysean thing. I would have thought it should work so when a message is sent out, the reply-to is set to something like 't-131009-Forum@domain.com'. This is handled as if it was a reply entered in the forum system to topic post 131009.

Anything sent to MOD-Development-Forum@domain.com is started as a new topic then.

In all those addresses I give as examples, BTW, I guess one could just as easily have MOD-Development@forum.domain.com, t-131009@forum.domain.com, etc. Wouldn't that be nice?

Cheers,

Robin

Hi Raintonr,

i am sorry for only now getting back to you, but i have been quite busy.

Regarding the download dialog box, i have some problems with my server from times to times, i have been trying to solve it, but it has been quite difficult, and all the solutions that i have applied seems to work only for a couple of days.

Regarding the questions that you are making:

M2f subscribe,
i am not quite sure about what you are asking, but if you have RC04, i have already solved the problem in the versio that i am to be releasing once i have finished to test the attach functions.

Images in the admin,
you just need to go to the admin_m2f_xxxxxx.php functions, and at the beginning of the files you will seek the following entry

$phpbb_module['<img src='.$phpbb_root_path.'images/cm2flogo.png width=50 height=19 >CM2F']['<img src='.$phpbb_root_path.'images/cm2fbutton.png width=20 height=20 border=0>

and replace it by

$phpbb_module['CM2F']['

Regarding using one single mailbox to receive multiple messages, you can screen them based on the source address, using mailingstreams, to different forums.
To have it screened based on the TO fields is not difficult to implement, it is just a question of adding an extra check, and in the mailingstreams check for the configuration before screening the messages based on the FROM or on the TO field. Since it is very easy to make, i will try to have it included in the RC 05.

I am not sure that i am undestanding the last question about the different replies. Could you be more explicit and give an example.

REgards,
D.

Thanks for your answer - you are pretty much right about what I was saying with regards to the mail coming into the same box. If you included that function it would help a lot of people I'm sure.

I've actually found another similar mod called forum_user_notification which is simpler and does not include the mail to forum part, but this fits my needs so will go that way. I found this on Netclectic:

http://www.netclectic.com/

It's in their Alpha/Beta section at the mo but looks good and works for me.

Cm2F RC 05

Post by danyblue »

Hello all,

CM2F is now approaching release RC 05.

This new release solves some of the following bugs:
- Postnuke installation hanging - The installation has been rewritten to solve this issue and it is now running correctly. It has been tested with the last versions of postnuke .760 and pnphpbb 1.2h.
- forms not saving correctly some information into the database.
- Registered users posting.

It adds:
- Attachment mod integration, attachs are running in the same modes that CM2F makes available AUTOMATIC, INTERACTIVE AND ATTACHMATIC, giving the administrator extra flexibility on how to manage the attachments coming to the forum. In this version it will not support Post to Mail attachs, but it is being worked.
- New filtering functions, now it is possible to filter the messages coming to the forum, not only based on the source email address, but as well with the destination address.
- Installation improvment, now the installation will manage also upgrades, resets and uninstallation of the SQL tables used by CM2F. I am also working on a compatibility function that will allow CM2F to adapt the database in case M2F (my other mod) is used, allowing both systems to run in the same database.

The application is becoming very stable and is running now without major problems in most of the supported CMS. There are still minor bugs that i am solving as they are popping from the code.
I think that the multiversion is something that in the long term will benefit the development of the application as it will become instantneously available for all platforms.

As for the future:
- Plugins capabilities, to allow third party mods to integrate with CM2F,
- Deeper integration with CMS, especially with the articles systems,
- Improve admin interfaces to allow the system to be more easy to manage,
- Improve statistics reports,
- MultiForum bridge, allowing the system to map other forums if needed.
All of this using all the standard PhpBB architecture to allow full compatibility with phpbb and all ports.

I would like to end the message by expressing the thanks to all the community, that has been testing my application allowing me to move on, and to keep improving it in functionalities and stability, for the patience that they have had from day 0 and that they are still having, even while CM2F is moving through the Release Candidate State without reaching yet the version 1.0.
But i think that it is best to have an application withou any error or problems in version 1.0, than to rush through it in order to get there, credibility will improve.

As always i will post here the communication of release.

I am trying also to improve the performance of digitalgraa website and i am looking into some offers that i have been receiving to let me some webspace and bandwith that will allow me to migrate the site to a more performant platform. This should allow the system to run bete

RC 05 near release

Post by danyblue »

Hi all,

it is time for a last status.
I am finishing the cleaning of the code to assure that no debug information is still present.

RC 05 is solving most of the bugs that have been found in the last weeks and that affected some features like the installation in Postnuke, Forms saving, etc...

It is including new functionalities like attachments in both directions (To the Forum and From the Forum), User Manager, User Mass Subscription, Improved Installation Script (dealing with upgrades, resets and uninstallation from database).

All the functions have been tested at leat twice in each the supported environment and in none of the cases errors have been found, but as always, there will still have one or two that will be popping out, without affecting the functionality of the mod.

At this moment CM2F is running in most of the platforms supported by members of our community, which is a good sign and that will help increase the overall quality of the application.

Some people have been asking me why i don-t change the version to 1, and stay in Release Candidate. The answer is quite simple, i prefer to deal with all the problems while being in RC phase, than to go in version 1.0 and have a forum full of bugs and problems. I think that in the end the credibility will be higher this way.

CM2F is an application full of advanced functionalities that is designed to help the administrator managing the bridging of two distinct worlds of contents (mails and forums) and the task is not just about moving one message from one side to the other, but doing this managing correctly the level of effort to do this.

I think that CM2F is doing this quite well now ...

I am hoping to release RC 05 between this evening and tomorrow.

Regards,
D.

RC 05 Released

Post by danyblue »

CM2F RC 05 is finally released.

It includes the fixes to all the bugs that have been reported on this website and it includes new features to make the platform more flexible and more compatible with all the environments supported.

As new features it includes:
- Improved Installation Script, that is able to manage New Installation, Upgrades, Resets and Uninstallations. this will allow to better support all the changes that are introduced in CM2F without loosing any configuration.
- Splitted Management Interfaces for the Mail2Forum and Forum2Mail features, now Forum2Mail are managed from their own interface allowing the users to configure all the parameters needed to have the system sending messages.
- Signature mode, associated with the Forum2Mail, signatures have been modularized, in order to have a configurable signatures to each of the Forum2Mail registers. The next step being configured is the inclusion of Autolinks that will be appended to the end of the signature, that will link back to the forum in order to perform configurable actions. This functions is being tested now.
- Inbound and OutBound Attachments, this functionallity allows the system to manage the attachments reaching the forum and vice versa. There are several processing modes associated with the feature, and that gives extra flexibility to manage the attachments. This function has been tested, but it can still have a couple of bugs in it, depending on the software used.
- Forum Subscriptions Management Improvement, now it is much more easy to manage the users subscribed to the forums, you can subscribe/unsubscribe all your users to the forums that you want to.

I have also started to code the Gmail pop3 access support, the function is not yet fully working but i have been able to make some tests. The suport is not included in this version of CM2F because i need to see the impact of the possibles solution in the release, in order to avoid dependencies that could create future problems.

Let-s continue the work with the documentation, where i will be spending most of my time,

MDPro and MDForum support

Post by danyblue »

Hi all,

With CM2F RC 05 i am activating the MDpro and MDForum support. the tests that i have been doing are bug free, and i have been able to install, configure, import and export message to/from the forum.

As always, the behavior from one system to the other can be different, for this the more users wanting to test the application in the MDpro environment the most assurance we will have of the overall stability of the application under it.

Regards,
D.
