Dany,

I for one are very interested in the Mail2forum but not so intereted in your nuke work. What state is Mail2forum in, in terms of delivering email to a phpbb forum is it ready for some thirdparty testing or you still in the middle of alpha work??

I am also very interested in the application of m2f and I'd gladly test it on my own forum...

Thanks for all the work,
Stevan

CM2F standalone

Post by danyblue » Tue Oct 14, 2003 6:21 am

Hi,
regarding the CM2F as a standalone application it is ready, i am just polishing code, and changing things based on the Postnuke/pnphpbb port, in order to keep some consistency across the two applications(which for me are as one).
The email account integration is done, just testing it, since i had to perform slight changes to the code that i had.
So i think that i should not take more than 1 or 2 weeks time to release the two versions in beta mode.
I am not releasing it at this moment, because when i have started again the developpment i have seen that i had a lot of things that where not very developped or that were not approprialy tested, which causes some bad impression on people. Last time i was under pressure, because i was starting a pos-graduation, and the people that were waiting for the mod were getting impatient:).
Since i have learned a lot from my past errors, i will try to have the best code as possible (Since i am no programming expert) working without errors, that is easy to install, and that will not give any problems to the people that will install it on there systems.
the only problem that i really have, is that i don't have any user documentation done in order to make the first configuration into the systems. It shoudl not be to difficult since i have a control panel, but netherelse some thing obvious for me that is developping, can not be the same thing for someone else.
In order to avoid this, after the completation of the coding effort (where i am just missing in activation of the postnuke module) I will open for testing in my site the overall packaging, including the administration panel in order to have people use it and report me things that they don't understand or that should be changed. This will allow me to assure that CM2F when starting will be easy and intuitive to use.

Regards,

Danyblye

I assure you it would leave no bad impression on me if I were to test it before the release date...
It's not that I can't wait really, but I'm very positively anxious to try it and get to use it...

I think I'd manage...

Thank you, Sir...

Postnuke article integration

Post by danyblue » Sat Oct 18, 2003 8:59 pm

Hi,
i have put a small question in http://www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org about a feature of the integtration with the postnuke story system.

So if i could get some answers to help me decide on how to finish the module it would be fine, if not, i will go on based on what I think should be made the integration between postnuke and phpbb.

CM2F status

Post by danyblue » Wed Oct 22, 2003 12:19 am

Hi,
a new update, the integration between phpbb/pnphpbb and the postnuke article system is now ready.
Article published in postnuke will be published in the phpbb database under the selected forum. By the same function, messages posted in the phpbb database will be visible in the article system of postnuke, and thus way available in the front page of the CMS.

The next phase is to include the comments module in the same process, allowing the phpbb threads to be published as articles and comments, and vice versa, articles and comments to become threads in the database.

The junction between these news features and the CM2F will create a new system very flexible from the point of view of communities.

Once the the postnuke integration is ready, i will be finally able to release the application to the people interrested in testing it and that have been helping me with comments and suggestions.

Hi dany.

I'm watching this thread with great interest and have a small question for you. You may not know the answer at this point, but maybe you could venture a guess. I am wondering how much of a hit on the server's CPU this will be since there is so much going on...

Thanks for all the updates!

Hi,

do you mean from a point of view of CM2F?

In a normal use, importing messages from mailinglists with an average load, the the CPU consumption is almost 0, i have made some tests (in order to try the stability of the system under heavy workloads, the CPU consumption was more or less 30%.

The major impact is ocurring when importing mailinglists archives for instance, the ones that i have in http://www.opennetworks.dyndns.org, which were more or less 30 Mb, took one and half hour to process if 100% CPU utlization, but there was a lot of IO to disk envolved.

My calculations are that in average it shoult not consume more CPU than another internet application server.

I hope it answered your question.

Status

Post by danyblue » Mon Nov 03, 2003 1:24 pm

Hi,
I have updated the CM2f Status at my homesite.
I have had a delay due to some work overload that I had in the last weeks, but I am hoping to get back on track during this week.

The postnuke integration is giving me some heachache due to the functionalities to be included and to the consistency that I want to include in the module.

Status Update

Post by danyblue » Mon Nov 10, 2003 6:27 pm

Hi,
Since CM2F is almost going to betaphase, i have started updating the website, i have included a gallery with some of the screenshots of CM2F.

The CM2F application as a standalone application is pratically finished, i am reviewing the code and implementing the installation script, before the betaphase.

The integration with postnuke is a little bit delayed, i have implemented the connection between the news system and the messages posted in phpbb, a message published to Postnuke can be saved into phpbb, and the first message of a phpbb thread can be seen from postnuke news system.
The control panel is also ready and it is possible to select the images to be associated with the forum to be integrated, and which forums are to be integrated between the two systems.
I am now fighting with the comments mode, the first message being the news itself, the following threads in the message are to be posted as comments, and vice versa, comments in postnuke are integrated as replies to the first message... This is very complex, and I need more time to correctly understand the way it is coded in postnuke in order to make the bridge.
I don't think it will take too much time, but i have been having some heavy workload in my jobs, which is not always allowing me to dedicate as much time as i would like to code the functionaliites.

As always more detail in http://www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org

New Status

Post by danyblue » Thu Nov 20, 2003 12:44 am

hi,

I have solved two new issues with the CM2F Code:
- Sendmail integration error, the code was only ready 5kb mails, discarding the remaining mail, which was creating integration errors.
- addsearch function was returning an error over html code, i have change the code to include more filtering and it is working.

One error has pop out this evening while integrating a live mailinglist, for some reason the , the replymatic mode is not working as it should, the behavior is distinct with real content than with the testing ones used.
I am getting a deeper look at it, it should not be to complicate to solve.

Final Name and Logo

Post by danyblue » Fri Nov 28, 2003 10:24 pm

Hi,
after a small votation on the homesite, the name of this application is to remain the same, phpbb cm2f, and the logo should be the following.

I am publishing the information here, since the name and the logo have clear references to phpbb, the final decision will be taken among the community.

Regards,

Danyblue
