A new fix is available

Post by danyblue » Thu Dec 02, 2004 6:35 pm

Hello all,

i have just released a new fix to CM2F RC 02 which solves a spelling error in the install script that causing the database to be created and not populated by the default values. The result was that later, when trying to run the application an error was given stating the the GENERAL CONFIGURATION was not loaded.
Some other bugs have been also solved, specially some variable initiations that depending on the configuration of APACHE+PHP might not be initiated by default.
The installation schema was missing also a field that was creating an error when trying to create a mailingliststream.

I have enhanced the Interactive interface allowing for the administrator to choose the listing order of all the topics that are in INTERACTIVE MODE, this allows to manage more easily the process of importing manually the messages into the forum.

An example of cm2f can be seen at http://www.opennetworks.dyndns.org (Xoops Version) a 80MB mailinglist has been processed, the threads are in some cases 60 messages long.
The application should now be able to install and to run without problems, download it at http://www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org

Problem with RC 02 FIX 02

Post by danyblue » Fri Dec 03, 2004 7:41 am

Hello,

A problem happend while uploading the RC 02 FIX 02 file, and the file was corrupted, i have reloaded the new package and it is now working.
The last status of this package is that most people that i sent it previously were able to install and configure the system without errors.
But there are still some people reporting a couple of errors. I think it must be depending on the APACHE+PHP configuration used in the running environment, there so the more people will install the file the more i will be able to troubleshoot any possible coding error and make the application fully stable.

We need your help.

D.

CM2F RC 3 to be released

Post by danyblue » Wed Dec 22, 2004 11:15 am

Hello All,

during the last weeks, some progress has been made with CM2F.

One problem related with a get_max_depth has been fixed and another onte related with open_base_dir is in the process of being solved by allowing the customization of the location of the directory that contains all the communications functions.

The PHPNUKE and XOOPs support are now completed, i had a problem with the Interface of the General COnfiguration options, which have been solved also. CM2F is now running without problems in POSTNUKE, PHPNUKE and XOOPS.
I have made some tests with MAXDEVPRO and MAMBO and the application is running as well, in the latest, there is a problem related with the way the phpbb port to mambo is splitting the phpbb directories.

I am cleaning the RC 03 code form the debug information that i had to put in order to release some bugs, and i will pack the full content and release it in my website http://www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org during next week( I will be on holidays for a while).

Some people have asked be why to support in one version all the systems, and the answer is quite straightforward, by having one release for all the systems, new features are immediatly available for all the versions, there is no need to wait for some one to port the feature to another port. The proof is that the last features that i added to the system, like the ability to manage which forums are available for subscriptions, only took the time, to actually implement the function and it ran instantly over all the platforms.

I think that the road to CM2F 1.0 is very close now.

REgards,
d.

Cm2F RC 03

Post by danyblue » Wed Jan 05, 2005 12:27 pm

Cm2F RC 03 has been released and is available under the download location.
A part of phpbb, it Includes support for the disting phpbb flavors in the following CMS
XOOPS
POSTNUKE
PHPNUKE
MAMBO

New features have been added like:
-Enable the Mail directory to be moved from the default one to allow the users with open_basedir, to customize the locatization.

-Forum subcription selection, allows the users to define which forums are subscribale by the users.

It solves the errors existing in the previous version.

Readme the INSTALL M2F.txt file for installation.

Be carefull when upgrading from a previous version, cm2f_extension.inc must be customized before running the application, because some news fields have been added to allow the multiversion support.
I have tested the application in MAMBO and PHPNUKE, but the first results will start to come when new users will install it on new environments.

I will now try to concentrate on the documentation that is lagging behind and is not useful as it should be. If some ones wants to give me an hand, it would be appreciated.

I have setup a couple of test sites that can be seen
mambo.digitalgraal.dyndns.org for the mambo version
phpnuke.digitalgraal.dynsns.org for the phpnuke version
cm2f.digitalgraal.dyndns.org for the standalone version
www.opennetworks.dyndns.org for the xoops version (Production environment in Spanish)

www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org is running the postnuke version.

not all the features are activated as i have not physical time to manage all the tests, and i don't want to loose the control over the content of each sites.

D.

Hi All,
just a quick status. I have now completed the integration of CM2F and XphpbbI for xoops.

Some of the users that are helping me have already been able to process their messages and tested some of the processing modes that CM2F provides.

The application is heading quickly to version 1.0.

I should release a new fix version Cm2F RC 3 FIX 03 by tomorrow.

Putting things in place for 1.0

Post by danyblue » Wed Jan 12, 2005 7:12 pm

Hello all,

in the last days CM2F have given giant steps into coming very close to a FINAL version prior to version 1.0.

I have now setup 5 live tests sites for each of the versions where CM2F is working,

PhpBB in standalone
phpbb for Xoops
phpbb for postnuke
phpbb for phpnuke
phpbb for mambo.

The links can be found under the logos at the front page of http://www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org.

I am receiving feedbacks of several installations in different portals without any problems. The configuration process is still something that will have to be improved over the next versions.

Cross version working is allowing me to solve very quickly the last bugs and CM2F is close to be moved to a FINAL status prior to version 1.0.

I am releasing later this evening or tomorrow morning the last RC 3 FIX 03, which i think solve the last bugs and introduces some new improvements, and i will wait for comments of the users before moving the status again.

CM2F RC 03 Fix 03 Released

Post by danyblue » Thu Jan 13, 2005 3:11 pm

CM2F RC 03 FIX 03 is released.

The problems commented on digitalgraal's forum + some that i have found have been solved and i have added some changes in my, forever search, for a simple isntallation process...

I have change the installation script, there is no need now to edit cm2f_extension.inc. The installation script is taking care of this component. Change the access rights to the file to allow write privileges and run the installation script. You will be prompted to choose the version you want to ran, and to change the MailPath.

If you are upgrading from a previous fix, then you will have to backup the original cm2f_extension.inc first in order to recover it after the installation process. If not, manually update the information.

As always, i have tested every thing in all the live tests, but be carefull just in case i overlooked something.

I have not been able to found any bug or debug information, so i think that Cm2F is getting each more stable and more robust.
I will be waiting for your comments.

DigitalGraal Forum Fully integrated with CM2F

Post by danyblue » Tue Jan 18, 2005 10:38 pm

After a couple of problems caused by the changes , made to CM2F code, to be able to support the different PHPBB flavors, for the main Content Management Systems, DigitalGraal forum, running PNphpBB is now fully integrated with CM2F.

What does this mean? Basically, that you are able to receive the postings in your email and reply to them directly from your mailbox, as if a mailinglist, or, if you prefer, you can do the same thing in the forum, knowing that the content will be replicated to your favorite mailinglist.

All the forums in this site are now activated and running without any intervention. The only thing that i ask, is to please avoid abuses which could create any problem to the website which with the peak of interrest is running low on resources and bandwith.

I am now packaging the new files into the RC 3 FIX 04 and trying to improve the documentation, as to make less harder(if possible) to configure CM2F.

I am also replicating the last fileset to the other livedemos sites in order to have a showcase for all the versions.

send me your email and i will forward to you the password and login.
I am sorry for any inconvenience the site has caused to you, but since i am under a lot of overwork to release and test the software, i don't have too much time to take care of the overall site.

Hi everyone.,

just to tell you that phpnuke.digitalgraal.dyndns.org is now running a fully enabled CM2F.
This means that registered users can subsribe to any of the forums and receive the updates on their mailbox, from which they will be able to reply directly to the forum.

I have had some problems with the sendmail integration because PHPNUKE have a lot of small differences in the database management of phpbb which in some cases created a couple of problems,

There are still a couple of glitches that i will try to fix, mainly, debug information that could be present in the screens.

I am now packaging what will be the CM2F RC 03 FIX 04, the more the system gets tested the more stable it will become.

I have now CM2F working integrated with
http://www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org
http://phpnuke.digitalgraal.dyndns.org

and i am now moving to fully integrate the other sites demos
http://mambo.digitalgraal.dyndns.org
http://xoops.digitalgraal.dyndns.org (xphpbbi)
http://www.opennetworks.dyndns.org (pbboard --- spanish)

And i have played around with MD Pro which is like Postnuke.

email masquerading and user posts stats

Post by danyblue » Tue Jan 25, 2005 11:27 am

Hi,

i have modified the way CM2F was dealing with emails from non registered users in the forum, previously i used the email as the username, which based, upon some messages that i have received, could be a security issues, as it would allow spambots to find the users emails.
To avoid this, i have made the CM2F configurable to select if to use emails or to generate usernames based on the emails and to masquerade the email with this new username.
The function is tested and working and will be included in the new FIX that i am finishing.

I have also improved the statistics functions, now CM2F is tracking the user posts, both registered and non registered, and the destination forum. This will allow to define precise statistics about the usage of the system and of the mailinglists/emails usages by the system.

I am now cleaning code and doing the last checks before releasing RC 03 FIX 04.

One other thing, related with the site demos, I have seen that some people have been posting some tests on some of the demo sites. At this moment the only sites that have the full integration enabled are www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org and phpnuke.digitalgraal.dyndns.org, with the versions for Postnuke and PHPNUKE.
I am slowly enabling the other sites as well, but it takes time, which i don't have at this moment.

The release RC 03 FIX 04 of CM2F has been released at http://www.digitalgraal.dyndns.org

It solves the issues of the last release.

Enables PHPNUKE platinum support, needs to configure /admin/cm2f_tags.inc and set the define to 0.

Enables user_email masquerading

Enables users stats

Improves subscription functions

Enalbles the replication of email replies to be distributed to all forum subscribers(admin enabled) which allows the system to act a mailinglist manager.

Solves some issues with the admin_m2f_interactive.php not moving some messages.

As always this is a Release Candidate. I have tested the application other the 5 sites that i have running and no problem were found, but as the facts ocurred other times, the application behavior will be different in other platforms.

Support is provided in the forum.

The more CM2F is tested the more stable it will get.

Cm2F coming to stable version

Post by danyblue » Wed Feb 23, 2005 3:34 pm

Hi Every one,

finally it seems that CM2F is finally become both powerfull and stable. the last release has been installaed and configured in several websites without any problems.
They are still a couple of functionality glitches that are just extra features that have been implemented.
I am now concentrating my last efforts into the Installation script in order to solve the issue with the configuration of the cm2f_extension file.
Once this is done, Cm2F will finally be moved into a FINAL status before moving to the 1.0 version.
It has been quite a long way since i have started this mod. Back then it was called M2F, and although i had a very clear roadmap in my head, i didn't knew the size of the step that i was about to give.

But this doesn't mean that the development is ending, because i have already tested new features and CMS to be supported.

The next bing step is ( and i am sorry phpbb to say it here) to emancipate CM2F from PhpBB ... Yes, to allow CM2F to work with to integrate other forums, so, just like i have been able to make a mult CMS version, i am now working on a MultiForum one, with a multimap functionality that allows CM2F to link internal fields with external forums fields.
I have been making tests with a couple of other Forums, and although i have not yet a production version, i am at this phase able to have messages being imported into PunBB, SimpleBoard, NewBB, Xarbb and InvisionBoard.

Not bad for a start.

At the same time i am refining some of CM2F code :
- messages bodies replies and signatures detection for removal,
- self update scripts, that allows the system to self update it self from a central site.

So this is just the first big step into a new journey ...

Regards,
D.
