Posted: Wed Feb 11, 2004 7:55 pm
by DoD999
I've just updated my Main Page news script, which is now avaliable for download.

MOD Info:

Working Demo:

 Main Site page: http://www.snation.co.uk
 Forum containing leached posts: http://forums.snation.co.uk/snn/viewforum.php?f=3
 Lone post: http://www.snation.co.uk/index.php?n=73

Description:

This mod is designed to function like news scripts out there (such as Cute News, the old newspro...) but using the phpbb2 forums to gather the news information.

This is to be included into your main site, such as http://www.phpbb.com rather than your forums, such as http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/

Included are 3 options of displaying the news: Headlines, Full list of news and a single news post.

Headlines.php will display your headlines
News.php will display:
1) The full list of articles if no news id is entered into the URL
2) A single post if a news if is enerted into the URL.

Admin Panel:

Included is an Admin Control panel for easy adjustment of your settings.

Full list of features:
  • The starting post of the thread will become the news post, with the replies as comments
  • Uses the phpbb template system - includeable in any page on your website
  • Independant from phpbb, so the sessions, cookies and other parts of phpbb dont affact your site
  • Full BB code compatability - certified with origional phpbb codes. Moded codes may work. Those on phpbb.com mods database should be supported.
  • Complete smilie support
  • Supports disabling BB code and smilies on posts.
  • Includes a language pack (easily mod-able to have moer than one language) so you do not need to edit the templates to edit a word.
  • Will display: A list of headlines, a list of the news posts, or individual posts.
  • Able to post links with the news for post comments, view comments, view full news post (e.g headlines) and view all news posts (news forum)
  • Adding a poll to a news post will display a link to the poll, the poll title and a link to the results.
  • Sticky and Announcement support: Either display these on their own, with the "Normal" news - or not at all.
  • Limit the headline subject length, so all can be kept on one line in a small space.
  • No need to modify any phpbb files, or the database.
  • Ability to display the posters avatar and a link to their profile.
  • Dates displayed are edited to match the default board time zone, and daylight savings.
  • Display links to the posters website, or e-mail link and PM link.
  • Checks the forum you select for the news posts to ensure it is not a private forum so private posts are not displayed, to avoid a security issue.
  • Display the user's rank along with their news posts.
  • Support for guest postings
  • Added Admin control panel
  • EasyMOD Compatable

## For Security Purposes, Please Check: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/ for the
## latest version of this MOD. Downloading this MOD from other sites could cause malicious code
## to enter into your phpBB Forum. As such, phpBB will not offer support for MOD's not offered
## in our MOD-Database, located at: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/
##############################################################
## Author Notes:
## This "mod" or "add-on" is to take phpbb topics, and display the
## first post as the news post, and its replies as the comments.
## It is not part of phpbb - meaning its easily includeable into your site
## where usually phpbb files require it's sessions and templates to be applied.
## Included is an admin panel for the configuration of the news.
## This mod does not follow phpbb workings fully, and is NOT meant to.
## Doing so, would impede on the functioning of the script, and, defeat the
## point of the script - for using it within your main site.
## The templates are not associated with a theme as they are not controllable
## by a user on your site browsing (not part of phpbb... not logged in)
## The language used is the default board language. If the language file is not
## found in that language pack, it will revert to the default english.

Current Problems

None. Previous problems fixed with release of version 1.4.1 (as of 11th Feb 2004)

Updating from 1.4.0

None provided. But replacing files and ensuring the changes in the MOD txt file are applied should do the trick.

Fact is, it doesnt use functions.php

Is this an admin file... or?

There is no append_sid in (at least) my version of template.php. Although in about a week, i'll add it into functions_news.php if its needed...

hehe... cant find append_sid() in functions.php...

issue will be resolved ;)

The site is offline as it seems. Can I get support here? If yes, here we go:

I got version 1.4.0 and when I push on "Configuration" unter News in the Admin Panel, it just shows that much for me:

Code: Select all

Information

Click Here to return to the Admin Index
So I can't make any configurations. Any help?

Sure, just send me a PM with your e-mail. Maybe you can help me than or at least tell me, if it works with your board. :?

This project was unfortunately closed.

I have replied to the PM that was sent.

I'm sorry i've had to close it. More than likely, it will not be reopened for phpBB 2.0.x and support will not be avaliable for this version - as i have lost the code for it myself.

Furthermore, i am no way satisfied with the "method" the script uses to go about its job of displaying the news, which is why i stopped this version. It was an extremely overbloated script.

When phpBB 2.2 looks near to completion, i may begin a version 2.

Until then, nothing, unless other coders are willing to take up this project, in which case my help may be avaliable.
