Unfortunately there are people "out there" who have nothing better to do than cause other people trouble. Even worse are groups that write applications which cause problems. One very annoying (and pointless) way in which people can cause you trouble is by mass registering users. This Mod, back-ported from the forthcoming phpBB 2.2 helps eliminate or reduce this problem. It generates a random series of six alphanumeric characters as a png image. The user must then input these characters before they can register a new user. Should they fail three times in a row they will be locked out for the rest of that session

To Create TABLE phpbb_confirm

Code: Select all

CREATE TABLE `phpbb_confirm` (
  `confirm_id` char(32) NOT NULL default '',
  `session_id` char(32) NOT NULL default '',
  `code` char(6) NOT NULL default '',
  PRIMARY KEY  (`session_id`,`confirm_id`)
) TYPE=MyISAM;
Update TABLE phpbb_config

Code: Select all

INSERT INTO phpbb_config (config_name, config_value) VALUES ('enable_confirm', '0');
I have make this available for everyone to download

I'm using Version 2.0.0 so some of the text I am meant to find is not there.

Do I need to reinstall?

If you are still using 2.0.0 then you have more problems than just that text not being there. I would strongly urge you to update to the latest stable release.

I only know the PNG image color is determined in the below code in usercp_confirm.php, but how to change it to suit ones theme, I don't know that

Code: Select all

function create_png($gzimage, $width, $height)
{
	// SIG
	$image = pack('C8', 137, 80, 78, 71, 13, 10, 26, 10);
	// IHDR
	$raw = pack('C4', $width >> 24, $width >> 16, $width >> 8, $width);
	$raw .= pack('C4', $height >> 24, $height >> 16, $height >> 8, $height);
	$raw .= pack('C5', 8, 0, 0, 0, 0);
	$image .= png_chunk(13, 'IHDR', $raw);
	// IDAT
	$image .= png_chunk(strlen($gzimage), 'IDAT', $gzimage);
	// IEND
	$image .= png_chunk(0, 'IEND', '');

	return $image;
}

As Graham suggested, upgrade your forum to the latest version. I've yet to know people using Visual Confirmation prior to 2.0.4

You just made my day. :)

Thank you so much for posting this! I had to update 5 forums, but it's worth it. One of them alone had over 40 robotic registries yesterday alone.

THANKS!!!!

Re: [Submitted] Installation Guide for Visual Confirmation

Post by Gabriele »

Hello!

I've installed the 2.0.8 and noticed the missing of the visual confirmation.
I came to this forum to find out what's going on and I read posts saying that the phpBB group forgot to include this feature in the newest version.

I read pages and pages of the forum and I find everithing but a post from the phpBB group about this issue. (Maybe I am blind)

I came to the consclusion that this can not be matter of forgetting but, I think, this hides something major behind.
Don't u think it's strange that the phpBB group didn't fix this or AT LEAST put the MOD available in the Doenload section?

I am going nuts trying to find this ZIP file where the .tpl file is but... nothing!

Is someone here so gantle to place a straight link to a page where this file can be downloaded from?

Thanks a lot!
Gabriele
