Quote of the Moment v2.3.1 (beta)

Demo forum:

Screenshots: ACP Config Panel, Quote Management, Quote Box

Download zip:

Upgrades: For this version you can simply overwrite all your server files, no backend DB changes have happened.

There are a few quote modifications out there but none with an admin control panel and active member interaction.

  • This mod allows users to add their favorite quotes into the database and manage their own quotes with delete and editing capability.

Users must be logged in before they can add/delete.

Users cannot add/delete or see their quotes if the Admin has disabled this feature.
  • Admins will see all quotes in the ACP as well as the forum-side quote_edit.php and can administer quotes from both places.

The configuration module is new, and allows admins to control the maximum length of quotes for all users. Admin can also show or hide the "added by" row and the user interface via the ACP.
  • The quote block can be put anywhere on your forums.

This mod would also be great for site tips, tech tips, links to news, or even a low level advertisement/link banner that allowed members to control their own entries.

In this incarnation, I've made the following changes:

- Dropped "status" column since rand() was handling random selections.
- made code DBAL & phpbb standard
- created an ACP for quote mgmt (add/delete only)
- added a php_quote_config table to handle ACP
- added user interface for quote mgmt

Please let me know if I've missed a step in posting this here!

AdelaJohnB : If nobody is interested in this mod on phpbb, does that mean phpbb won't accept it? Should I just release this on my own site w/support?

You can still upload it to the MOD database :)

Can I make a suggestion for an addition? :)

How about an option in the user side of the cp to show only the quotes that they have added to the site, incase they don't want to see everybody's... :?: Let's them personalize the site a bit

Great mod by the way, I really liked the use of the "quote" img in the cp's makes it look professional, like it's supposed to be part of the board :D

Hey Brent - When you click on "edit" in the quote box it should take you to only your quotes. Are you saying you also want it in the User CP?

Morph: thank you :) I will!

Actually what I meant was that a user could have the option to only randomly display the quotes they had uploaded, and not ones from the whole db...

Ohhh...okay I see what you mean. If this is something that more people want I can work on it for a future release. With the ability to incorporate the site's quotes or specific users...large scale this could be SQL server heavy if people are pulling these complicated quotes out on every load. But it's an interesting idea :D

Teknicker - are you using mysql? One of the things I need help on is converting the DELETE command from mysql to a universal command. It's working for me in the ACP and in the forum-side management. I've got a request in to get this code fixed.

Do you have a link to your forum where it's installed?
