smaLL? problem on install

Post by drw » Sat May 27, 2006 1:57 am

Hi!
I've just installed v2.2.4 (my first install of this MOD) and I get the RSS icon in the menus bar (Safari on OSX 10.4) but when I click on the icon I get the following error message:

Code: Select all

Safari can’t open the page “feed://avatar.com.au/sonify/comms/rss.php?atom”. The error was: “unknown error” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
This is a private forum.
The file rss.php is in the /comms/ directory with permissions 755

Have I done something stupid on install or is this a browser problem?
(Apologies, php is not my forte!)

OK fixed my own problem.
In rss.mod.txt it says:

Code: Select all

copy templates/subSilver/rss_body.tpl to templates/subSilver/rss_body.tpl
copy templates/subSilver/atom_body.tpl to templates/subSilver/atom_body.tpl
but doesn't suggest to copy these files to all other templates as well as subSilver.
A small addition, to rss.mod.txt perhaps???

Automagical login

Post by skolima » Tue May 30, 2006 8:29 pm

As most online, AJAX-based RSS readers don't support HTTP authentication, I had to check my forum from a desktop reader, such as Thunderbird. Then I saw a wordpress solution to the problem, and (finally!) moved my ass and coded it for this mod.

My modification behaves in every way as the original, except it recognizes one additional parameter : "passhash". If both "login" and "passhash" are set, it attmepts to login user using the specified credentials (that is, username and password md5 hash). It allows RSS adresses in the form of

http://somesite.com/rss.php?login=koza& ... 1ece80d549

for generation of personalized RSS feeds.

md5 hash can be generated for example using http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5/ (this is a JS solution, no data gets transfered to server.)

Modified files can be downloaded from http://konie.wlkp.pl/skolima/rss_phpbb_ ... _login.zip , I have also posted the changes to chyduskam.

need help

Post by creepydragon » Wed Jun 07, 2006 1:00 pm

I'm having a problem using your sweet RSS mod. The error occurs both in Google Reader and in Thunderbird. When run it through an RSS validator, it warns about bad characters being found. It appears that apostrophes in the posts are being converted to a character that is rejected, or isn't being converted or something. My site feed is found here...

www.captive2reason.com/forums/rss.php

the validator i used was here:

feedvalidator.org

Finally, here is a link to the feedvalidator site, pointing to my site...

http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url= ... %2Frss.php

You're help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Help me please...

Post by the_lar » Thu Jun 08, 2006 1:32 pm

OK, I'm probably being really thick, so please forgive me. This is the first Mod I've tried to install.

I've uploaded all the files to the relevant places, and my rss.php file seems to be working OK: http://www.running4women.com/forum/rss.php

The problem is that I'm not seeing the RSS icons in either the address bar or along the bottom of the browser. Do I need to make some changes to my forum configuration? How do I get these to shop up?

Many thanks
Kevin

I see 'RSS Feed' showing as the forum location on the viewonline page, but not on the admin page section 'who is online'. Has anybody done this successfully?

Hi All
I Have a problem. (and who does't ? ).
My forum is completely private. So with the phpbb 2.021 new release i tried to install this lovely mod and i go throught some problems
well , the little ones i fixit with the reading of this forum here, but there is another one that i couldn't fix with all the tries in the forum....simply doesn't work.
So , if i was logged in to the forum i can see in browser the rss.php file with the xml format. It's ok, if i'm logged out i can only see in browser the headings, it's ok, but neither one or other can bee seen in the indepoendent reader. I tried rssreader, Omea, Mozila etc etc etc..... and there is nothing in the channel for my feed. ( nothing if i am logged in or logged out ....
Well i try to create a public forum ,and voila, the public forum is read and shown in the independent reader all of the above....
But, the private foruns they canot be seen in any way
i try all that i saw in forum here, but still no work ( if i write in the reade window i see the xml code into it.....
something is strange here
Any Ideas ???

i thanks in advance and forgive me for disturb

Alexandre

PS - i tryed to the read http login but stil nothing

I don't know if this is the correct place to make a request, sorry.

Anyway, we were discussing the RSS Feed Mod in this topic of the Total Commander Forum.

We think it could be useful to have a feed that only returns the first unread post of every topic. I mean, just like the feed for new posts of every topic, but only returning one post per topic (the first unread post, to be exact).

Would it be possible to integrate this feature in the next mod version?

Thanks in advance.
