The feed seems to be recording the 10 newest topics (I've set 10 as the limit) and I'm wondering how I can make it to be the 10 topics with the newest post?

So this would be the last 10 topics that either have just been created new or have had a reply added to them.

I use a component to list the 10 newest postings on the main page of my site (www.nzmac.com)...see over on the right.

But this list is different to...
http://www.nzmac.com/components/com_forum/rss.php
...as the RSS feed does not appear to be counting a topic that has had a reply as "new"....which makes sense, but I need the 10 most recent posts.

Despite me using Mambo, all other aspects of this Mod are working great with the component now, thanks.

Phil

How to support these RSS 2.0 elements?

Post by msenin » Wed May 25, 2005 5:45 pm

Websites like moreover.com have following requirements for RSS data feeds:
Providing an XML or RSS (with full content) feed is the best way to assure prompt consideration. Additionally, your content is required to contain the following metadata fields: headline, article URL, full content (for indexing purposes only), author, content category (World, US, Business, Entertainment, Science/Technology, or Health), and publication time.

The RSS 2.0 spec says:
In RSS 2.0, a provision is made for linking a channel to its identifier in a cataloging system, using the channel-level category feature, described above. For example, to link a channel to its Syndic8 identifier, include a category element as a sub-element of <channel>, with domain "Syndic8", and value the identifier for your channel in the Syndic8 database. The appropriate category element for Scripting News would be <category domain="Syndic8">1765</category>.

Is there a trick or an upgrade for this mod for me to specify category for all my forums' RSS feeds? Also it's not clear from the RSS 2.0 spec whether <category> element can be repeated in the body of the <channel>, i.e. can we specify multiple categories.

More general question/suggestion - it may be a good idea to provide a mechanism to specify meta-data for the forums so RSS mod can pick them up.

Gr8 mod.

But how do I use it with opera and firefox?
I tried making a gif image and linked it to rss.php?login&f=2 but I'm getting an error message

Code: Select all

HTTP Error 401

401.5 Unauthorized: Authorization failed by ISAPI/CGI app

This error indicates that the address on the Web server you attemped to use has an ISAPI or CGI program installed that verifies user credentials before proceeding. The authentication used to connect to the server was denied access by this program.

Please make a note of the entire address you were trying to access and then contact the Web server's administrator to verify that you have permission to access the requested resource.
It works with feed reader.

Please help?

Post by MODIP24 » Fri May 27, 2005 2:51 pm

I have innstalled this great MOD.

But:
1: I dont have any public forums, all forums are behind user login.
2: I have tried several feed readers, with and without user login info.
3: It should be validated, according to http://www.feedvalidator.org/check.cgi? ... um/rss.php

The feed readers replies with something like this: " No headlines found"

Can anyone help?
Visit my rss here: www.ip24.no/forum/rss.php

EDIT:
If i first log on to the forum, and then put full link with session ID to Feedreader, like this:
http://www.ip24.no/forum/rss.php?sid=a3 ... eb3b3a3e22

Then it works, but only for that session ID...
So it looks like, for me, that something goes wrong with login or parsing the SID to the reader...
I'm lost here, can anyone help?

Thanks for the tip, but I have tried that... :?

The forum, or the host, will not accept my login attempt through feedreader... I'm still stuck...

Is there any way to have the RSS feed only display the title of the thread on the output?

I am trying to syndicate my forums RSS on my front page in a phpmodule.

THe problem is that it shows up:

U.G.HQ

* Tempus's Corner :: A64 Memory Overclocking Worklog
* General Hardware :: Apple Gives in to the Dark Side, goes Intel
* Clickable Links :: ATI finally gets a good mobility video chip
* Tempus's Corner :: Making an LCD projector

AND I want it to show up like this:

* A64 Memory Overclocking Worklog
* Apple Gives in to the Dark Side, goes Intel
* ATI finally gets a good mobility video chip
* Making an LCD projector

Any help would be mich appreciated... :)

Plz tell what link you have given in feed reader.

Is it yourforum.com/rss.php ?
If you have all the sections private then it will not work.
It should be your forum.com/rss.php?login&f=x
To get x just just keep the mouse over the section eg: mod development in this forum is f=16
plz remember that with this mod you have to give seperate links in the feedreader for each sections.

Use of this mod in the Mambo phpBB component

Post by traverlaw.com » Fri Jun 17, 2005 9:34 pm

With very minor modification the RSS Feed 2.2.3 mod as distributed by phpbb.com works well for the tim-online.nl version of the Mambo/phpBB comonent.

It is discussed here:
