I wanted to post something to clear something up that I thought was unclear when I tried to install this MOD.

Aside from completing the steps in the MOD file, you also must download AJAX Spell Checker 2.2.

My unofficial instructions (and correct me if I am wrong):
  • 1. Download AJAX Spell Checker 2.2
    2. Unzip the folder and create a folder in your forum root called "spell"
    3. Copy all the unzipped files into the spell folder on your site
    4. Follow the original MOD code
Hope this helps anyone trying this out. It works great for my site now. One suggestion I have is to allow users to continue editing without having to click "Resume Editing" also I noticed that if you wrap text with any styling bb code (ie or ) it's spelling is not checked.

How would I go about using this MOD with PMs?

Some of my users have complained about the fact that the original (uncorrected) text is posted when Submit is clicked while still in spell check mode. Is there a way to detect that the edit box is in spell check mode when either Preview or Submit are clicked?

Neat - might be time to change the old way of doing spell checks... 8)

Anyone want to help me with the editing of my files? I have a bit of a different template and can't figure out where to put the editing.

Making this mod work for private messages is really EASY!

Code: Select all

Open privmsg.php

Find

// End session management

After Add

require_once("spell/spell_checker.php");
$template->assign_block_vars('switch_spelling', array());
I hope this helps. It works fine on my board.

Steve F wrote: I run the speller mod on Windows 2003. I had to play around with the PATH environment variable until php could see aspell. Also do you have extension=php_pspell.dll in your php.ini (or the equiv. for unix)? You should be able to run this script to test php access to aspell. Uncomment phpinfo() if you want to see the make configuration of your php.

Code: Select all

<?php
//phpinfo();
---snip
If this script works you have a problem with how the mod was installed. If this script fails, getting the aspell and php configuration set up correctly may be all you need to do.

I tried this out and I get this error:

Code: Select all

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Unhandled Error: C:\Program Files\Aspell\dict/en-only.rws: The file "C:\Program Files\Aspell\data/iso8859-1.dat" is not in the proper format.

I wonder if anyone knows the solution for this. I have aspell installed into the default location (C:\prog....) and PHP is starting up, which tells me that its loading the extension OK (needed to set the PATH and reboot before that worked). I also checked that aspell is working from the CMD prompt, and it is.

Any ideas?

I downloaded the newest version of the spell checker. it's really not too hard to figure out how to install if you check the readme that comes with it. :) the directions on the first page here won't work for it i don't believe.

if anyone wants to know how i did mine, lemme know and i'll post it.

here's a suggestion for the developer.
Instead of using a ajax spell checker that depends on php compiled with pspell (which is RARE), why don't you use something like this> http://amix.dk/projects/?page_id=3#How_ ... the_script_

Very similar functionality, but a lot simpler and reliable.

Just tried this with version 2.9 of Spell Checker.
Installed the MOD with EasyMod.

All seemed to be OK... Until I try to post or reply to a message then all I see is the PHP from posting.php !!

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Seems like like the problem was using version 2.9..
Changed to 2.2 and it works fine..

Any chance of an update to work with 2.9 ???
