I used IE 6 and went to the HTML directory. I tried to reply to a post. It corrupted the database. It seems that it added post text but no post to the database. The result was that the whole thread disappeared from the forum. I had to use a phpBB database repair tool to recover the thread I posted in. Not a big deal, but I take it that it was not supposed to work that way. :)

I apologize. I will do more test.

Since it does not happen in my environment, could you tell me if there is anything special in your phpBB, such as any other add-on mod, or which kind of database you use? (I only test on MySQL.)

Thanks a lot.

Not a problem. It was very easy to correct. It might not be a problem with your mod at all though. Our board is very heavily modded, but since this mod is so stand alone, I don't see exactly what the problem would be.

As I said in PM, I did try a few things on your forum and mine to try to figure out what might be causing the problem.

One thing that might make a difference is that our forum is installed in the root of our site instead of a subdirectory.

And we are using MySQL as well.

Thank you for working on this mod.

This version does not work correctly and will corrupt the database if you install some add-on mod. So I break the link. I will install these mod in my environment and improve the code.

Please be patient. Thanks.

i think you should also check with this thread...

"PDA-Ready" phpBB
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=44830
Lo-Fi Mod
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=291149
Phpbbtogo
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=148148

why i think you all should work together...
PDA is a mobile device right?
Mobile devices require sites with low-bandwidth-able versions no? (ref: L0-Fi)
Phpbbtogo has been around longer but still hasn't managed to make it postable & login-able...

My Notes:
i tried semi-screwing my Lo-Fi by blanking out the CSS in Lo-Fi and it looked just like wat was needed to make a postable phpbbtogo...downside: it looked horrible...phpbb somehow looked a bit better cuz it could align certain things...but phpbb wasn't definitive enough...you had to keep editig the config file to include more topics and didn't work at all with the subforums Mods out there...
added plus if in the Mobile Mod, you could add a downloads section? with upload/downoad capabilities? so users can swap wallpapers, ringtones, animation, (and now with the advent of 3G) videos!

Thanks for your feedback. The reason I post my mod here is I want the comments as yours.

While, regarding this issue, I will leave it to later version, because I am focus on feature development, such as post/reply, PM.

Actually, I used to have the layout as you suggest. It works on PDA, but mobile, which can only display about 10 characters in one line, will display the long string in several lines -- it makes user more confuse. So I leave all layout issue to later version. My current consideration is I will keep current layout for wap, and will use your layout for html/xhtml.

There is one thing I will make now. My current echo/display strategy is I call a function, inside the func, I display the string/url. I will change it to (1) get the string/url in main function/file, and (2) display the string in main function. The new stragegy will make other developer change the layout easily when he/she wants to improve the mod layout himself/herself -- he/she just need to re-combine the echo, he/she need not to get into any detail function.

I can get the mobile type from HTTP header info "User-Agent" field, and then append the mobile name after new/reply post. I will do it later.

Option Four:
You (the web administrator) will add some sub-domain, such as "http://xhtml.forum.yourdomain.com/", which can redirect the link to "http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/mo/index.php?type=xhtml"

Other option if you suggest.
Thanks.

I didn't see any response to this message.
Option Four is my choice.

I make a redirection from "http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/xhtml/" to "http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/mo/index.php?type=xhtml" in my code. So, from user view point, he/she can still use "http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/xhtml/"; from web administrator view point, he/she can add subdomain "http://xhtml.forum.yourdomain.com/", which redirect to either "http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/xhtml/" or "http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/mo/index.php?type=xhtml". In this case, user have one more choice -- "http://xhtml.forum.yourdomain.com/".

I will provide this function in version 1.3.x. Please check readme.txt or my web page for detail when it is available.

Thanks very much for your suggestion. I read the Lo-Fi thread carefully. (I read the other two topics before.) From technological view point, there are two solutions for "PDA/mobile friendly" phpBB, one is the template solution -- use a template to filter/delete un-necessary content, like Lo-Fi; the second one is only add necessary content through php code, such as phpbbtogo. (Of course, you can combine these two solutions in your implementation.)

However, my development strategy, not the mophpbb development strategy, is I want develop several applications for the advent of 3G. In detail, I will develop more "PDA/mobile friendly" add-on module for popular web appplications which are based on PHP + MySQL technoogy, such as CMS, blog, email, chat. I can not use the "template" solution, even it is quickly, because I assume "template" can not apply outside of phpbb. And this is the reason I use the domain name "mobileonlinelifestyle.com", not "mophpbb.com", for my web site.

I expect everyone's comment to my idea of "I will develop more PDA/mobile friendly add-on modules for popular web applications based on PHP + MySQL" technology -- should I have some try or give up right now?
