You should base it off of phpBBForums by sebflipper. Because IPB is a TOTALLY different forum software.

I just abandoned a MOD like this and Zypher took over. I haven't heard from him much, but he's working on it.

The MOD sounds good, but we can't have two MODs that are the exact same. I guess we'll have to wait for Zypher to post the dev post for that MOD.

But wahtever. Nice idea. Looks like you've got it under control. ;)

Code-wise, probably not. Functionality-wise, there's nothing too bad about having 2 MODs that can do the same thing; 2 similar MODs may have different features to offer.
Copy files from default directory [0%]

If I'm reading this right, I'm assuming you'll want your MOD to make a copy of the phpBB folder for every time someone makes a new "Free phpBB" account using this MOD? IMO that's really not a good approach since if a forum hoster has many users, that's a lot of space on the server to take up. A better approach IMO would be just to use extra GET vars.

I was thinking about having that. Also, in the future, I'll be using functions to check how many boards a user has.

Extra vars would work if all the forums are identical. If you wanted to offer different MODs for different forums, you would need different code. Frankly the amount of disk taken by the phpBB code, templates, even the images is trivial. It's probably 3-4MB at best, meaning you could host (without taking various databases into account) several hundred forums in 1GB of disk space.

Or maybe I'm missing the entire point. :-)

The Mulit-Forums hack from sebflipper is that thing where it shows index.php?mforum=blah, blah, blah this mod would only use 1 copy of the software, and one database, but different table prefixes... :)
I'll suscribe to this also...

Well if you wanted to offer MODs wouldn't that mean that you would have to allow FTP access? and DB access?

i know of a site using a mod like this http://www.gossiping.net/ it just uses an extra $_GET for the account name

i think having mods on it would be a bad idear, unless you are going to allow ftp access, but if someone knows how to do that sort of thing they will get their own forums..
