Is it possible to add a filter (such as a drop down menu) so people can view the ads according to location?

I believe that someone is working on a mod (for my mod) to acheive this. I'll let you know when I hear more.

Personals

Post by stevenh »

Can it be tweaked to run not only as a pictorial classified but also as a personals area... Like keeping a price for a car or a tangible item while at the same time not having to have a price for an item but allowing the poster to personalize his/her ad to have say, a swm looking for a sww,age,likes/dislikes...etc

It seems that it would be an easy tweak as long as fields aren't universal and can be changed to match a given category of listing.

Thanks for the great addon... I've been following it's change since Oct when you first started working on it. I've just now found the time to start the new site and am ready to begin integrating this mod into it. BTW... this really isn't so much a hack as it is an addon, is it?

Price is about the only universal field but you could easily remove it from the template and create a category specific field for price.

You're right it's more of an Add-on (now up to about 7000 lines of code). Please note that I fully intend to get this mod included as an official phpBB mod.

Just dug-up this Mod... Excellent mod... Keep up the good work!!!

SUGGESTIONS:
1) Upon a member clicking the "My Ads" link, the "New Ad" (to add a new ad) option is removed. Is it possible to add a "New Ad" link to the search results page? This way if there is an ad they want to add, they don't have to go back...

2) Is there a way to maybe simplify the home page of classifieds ads? For example, this is the classifieds script I'm currently using (http://www.morrisania.com/classifieds). I will be replacing this script with your Mod. Upon a visitor going to main ads page, its really simple and easy for them... I'm not saying your mod isn't easy to navigate because the links are right there on the left... However, I was wondering if the page could be cleaned up a bit?

Hey there Pete
I would think that adding several universal fields that can be left empty or modified might be an easy plus for the program. Everyone is going to have a different idea of what they want their site to do as far as functionality. This way certain information can be built in without having to mod anything. Seperating say cars from personals... in this way there can be a title of the field (using cars), like "Year" as the title modified by the admin...then the ad placer can simply put "the year"...etc Maybe having 5-6 modifiable fields like this would be quite useful. I would sure use them...grin

Thanks
Steven

Modifications to this mod...

Changing from Classified to Personals

Is is possible to change the PRICE box, into an AGE box..allowing people to use the search form like this:
_________

US > Georgia > Atlanta > Men seeking Women

Age 25 to 35
_________

This is a great mod, by the way...

You could rename the PRICE field to AGE in the language file.

Then you would set up....

Category: US/Georgia/Atlanta
Sub_category: Men seeking Women
Sub_category: Women seeking Men

Category: US/Georgia/Other
Sub_category: Men seeking Women
Sub_category: Women seeking Men

etc
