Hey,

I've this problem after installation... :
Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/alderian/domains/alderian.com/public_html/nebula/includes/template.php(127) : eval()'d code on line 151

And the line 151 and co:

Code: Select all

		// evaluate the variable assignment.
		eval($code);
		// assign the value of the generated variable to the given varname.
		$this->assign_var($varname, $_str);

		return true;
	}
Any solutions ?

Thx ...

(Note: I use the 2.0.18 version...)

Tough question. The error did happen in template.php - that indicates a problem in one of the .tpl files.
It might help to know which page you were trying to view, but things like this are hard to track down.

Most likely there is a mismatched

Code: Select all

 <!-- BEGIN something -->
somewhere in the template.

I have a few questions about the capabalities of this MOD...
Can it be set so that a certain user/group of users has an indefinite number of invites?
Can users be given invites based on rank?
Can users "donate" invites to other users?
Most importantly...
Has this been tested with the latest version of phpBB (2.0.18)?

Thanks!

No, but a user can be given a very large number of invites
Can users be given invites based on rank?

Yes, invites can be given to all users holding a certain rank.
Can users "donate" invites to other users?

No, that is not possible.
Most importantly...

So far the mod has not been validated by the mod team, so the usual restrictions do apply.
I am not aware of any problems in combination with phpBB 2.0.18.

I'm so glad I found this MOD. I was holding off on starting a forum (which is actually very badly needed) because phpbb didn't have this functionality. I can't wait to get the forum installed and MODded.

(my question is, what should I do to attempt to fix/troubleshoot this?)

ok, so I installed phpbb and that went fine.

Then I installed this MOD (downloaded and isntalled today) and at first it looked like it went fine.

I'm able to add invites to users' accounts and send out invites.

The only problem I have now is that users cannot get into their profiles.

when they go to
http://chal.example.com/profile.php?mode=editprofile
(domain name hidden for privacy)

they get the error message
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/<username>/public_html/chal/includes/usercp_register.php on line 354
(where <username> is my web hosting account name and "chal" is the subdomain the forum is located at)

also, just fyi, during the modification of all the files I was able to find an exact match for every string of text, except this one in usercp_register.php

Code: Select all

			$email_template = 'user_welcome';
			}

			include($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/emailer.'.$phpEx);
I am able to find the line, but it's either the tab characters (or another character I'm failing to notice) that is different.

I tried re-doing the modification of that file and it didn't fix anything.

Also (after a bit more testing) I found that the rest of the forum works except for "Profile" and "Register" (the profile error is above) ... here is the Register error:
when they go to
http://chal.example.com/profile.php?mode=register
(domain name hidden for privacy)

they get the (the same) error message
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/<username>/public_html/chal/includes/usercp_register.php on line 354
(where <username> is my web hosting account name and "chal" is the subdomain the forum is located at)

Thanks for spotting it, that's a packaging error I made.
It is fairly simple to fix; look for

Code: Select all

include($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/functions_invite.$phpEx");
and replace it with

Code: Select all

include($phpbb_root_path . "includes/functions_invite.$phpEx");
Sorry about it; I am 100% certain that I had fixed the error - I probably forgot about commiting the change.

The error aside, I recommend the installation with easymod, as it provides a standard rule on how to interpret the mod files; all the finds work with phpBB 2.0.18

should I undo my changes first, then use easymod
or just try it right over top?

(oh wait ... I see, the fix you said wasn't for inside the .MOD file only ... it was also for the file I hand-modified)
It's Fixed!!

thank you for the quick response (and for the link to easy mod)

If simply starting from scratch with a vanilla phpBB isn't an option, then fixing the existing files seems to be more promising to me.

The unmatched line should be around line 671 in usercp_register.

I edited the post above when you were replying.

I just went back and fixed the lines. I could probably go to a vanilla install again, but I'd prefer not to -- it's working now and I don't want to change it. Is there a specific reason not to just leave it how it is?

No, as long as it works, there is no reason to do anything at all :D
