Nobody said it was easy to work with someone elses code, but when you take that responsibility on, its expected that you will be around to answer questions- even if it is to say "I don't know".

People have lives outside of the internet you can't expect folks to be able to reply to every issue. This is open source software. It's not we are paying the guy.

Disable your weblog shoutboxes altogether.
I looked at that table, and you wouldn't believe the NASTY scripts running by exploiters in there.
Emptied it, disabled- and everything is back to normal.

How did you go about disabling Shoutbox? I don't see an option to disable it board wide - but it needs to be. I've got all kinds of Viagra ads on my site now.

Perhaps we can see the option to disable, or only allow reg users to shout?

Thanks,

The problems I have with the shoutboxes are, that when ever I set a user or myself to use advanced HTML editing, the shoutbox duplicates itself.. so that it looks like 4 or five shouboxes are stacked vertically.

Also, If I try and delete my own shoutbox messages as an Admin, clicking on the red X will take me to the forum index and repost the shout message I wanted to delete in the first place. so yeah... there are definitely some issues with the shoutbox.

I think a robot.txt file could be written to block the spam, and also folks show have to sign up to leave a message in the shout box. This would solve the problems with robots

I simply deleted the shoutbox table in phpMYadmin.
Then removed the code from the templates.
Someone told me they saw an error message somewhere as a result, but I have yet to find the page that throws it out.

One of my members cannot see his blog index page again, even after disabling the shoutbox.
It simply goes to a blank white page.
Have yet to figure out that bug, or find anyone else posting about the problem...but it exists nevertheless.
Maybe he is a guinea pig for this bug- but I doubt if its a first.

I don't know if its possible with this mod ---
But maybe you can direct me to where i need to go if not,

I want a Blog type of interface on my index page where the newest topics show up in a blog format. There are a some portals that are similar to what I am looking for, but they only show announcements. I want topics posted by anyone.

I also want it to integrate with my template, but I guess that happens with pretty much anything modded on a the forum -

Thanks you guys,
Adam

wumingsden wrote: I have just installed the blog mod 023c and get this error when I try and create a "advanced" template for myself:

The weblog face plate file (./weblogs/faceplate_1.htm) is missing, and cannot be found, please contact admin,,,

Does anybody know how to fix this? I have searched the zip file that I downloaded and could not find a file named this. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S Is there an actual site that supports the Blog Mod (apart from this)? I was thinking of setting up my own but does anybody know who I need to ask for me to do this?

Update (for people looking for these answers):

I haev just fount both of teh answers that I was looking for.

1) to set advanced mode you have to CHMOD the folder "weblogs" to 777

2) www.blogpoint.com is the official place to go for help.

If weblogs is set to 755 per the install instructions then Advanced Blog mode doesn't work. It throws the error quoted above. If it's set to 777 then it does work, but then it EXPOSES the entire directory to anonymous access including the potential for the directory and its contents to be anonymously DELETED. So this needs to be addressed. I will be awaiting an answer for this. Thank you kindly in advance.

Also the functionality of Advanced Blog mode needs to be addressed better. Is there a faceplate_x.htm file generated for each user? or each template? or both? In other words... How does it work? Will multiple users overwrite the same faceplate_x.htm file? or do they each get their own? and if so, what about if they switch templates. Is it remembered? And does HTML need to be turned on in the ACP for advanced blog mode to work. I will be awaiting an answer to these questions as well. Thank you kindly in advance.

Index.php ??

Post by IgnorantNewGuy »

Greetings all,

Quick question: at the start of the install instructions is this:

Code: Select all

#-----[ OPEN ]------------------------------------------
# OPTIONAL - Adds Recent Weblogs to your index.php page (Make sure to do the template changes as well)
index.php
I'm not seeing where this would end up on the index page. Anyone have it at this location?

Also: I use ezPortal. Anyone know if this code would fit into portal.php as an alternative?

Thx,
Scott 8)

One place to see it working is of course http://www.blogpoint.com/community/index.php .

And yes, this code also fits perfectly into portal, although there is also a seperate mod for putting the latest blog info to portal.php.

This adds "Most recently updated Blogs by user:" in the who's online under registered users online. You can take a look at mine for an example.

If you get the error "Table WEBLOG_CONFIG_TABLE doesn't exist" or something similar, ensure that you made the changes to constants.php correctly. "WEBLOG_CONFIG_TABLE" is a constant referring to the actual table, plus your forum prefix.

Can someone please elaborate more on the constants.php?? where would I go to make the correct changes to that?? This is the exact error that I am getting and am learning php now so would like any help I coudl get in this thank you!!

I think it only happens on some teplates because one guys blog is not affected and he is using advanced html as well. Check out Ghostface's blog, his doesn't have multiple shoutboxes and mine only shows like that if you're a guest.
