Hello,
what's the matter with the updates for the database?

IMO your MOD is dangerous. It only does simulating of an update.

was included in this mod, i use it at my site. (theres a dl link on the last page)
also it has a nice little message warning you that it will only update the version field and not the software.

also danb00 made the exact same (change in general config)

Hello,
IMO running the the update_to_latest.php is not a lot of work for maintenance.
I can't see any sense in this MOD.

The sense of the mod is pretty easy, it's just for giving you the idea that you're up-to-date with your phpBB istallation :)
but this mod is absolutely dangerous!! i wouldn't use it anyway :)
it's nice to try to help, but it does not have to be on this way
it's dangerous for beginning php noobs, which can have a falsch thought of being uptodate ...
I only provide support via the appropriate topics! Please no PM or mails! :)

i dont think about noobs till the very end
all this mod does is change the version number for you
i do my upgrades manually
by file edits
so i would use a mod like this
IMO your MOD is dangerous. It only does simulating of an update.
Update your forum version number in the admin cp config section after you upgrade

The sense of the mod is pretty easy, it's just for giving you the idea that you're up-to-date with your phpBB istallation

it just changes the number if you upgrade manually like i do

So this is just a MOD that UPDATES the version number should you manually update your forum by hand. Correct!?

This MOD will allow you to change the version of phpBB stored in your database to whatever (assuming numbers only) you want.

It *does not* update database schemas; if a phpBB version update changes the database, you better run update_to_latest.php.

However, most phpBB versions' update_to_latest.php files update only the version # stored in the database... 0.18 to 0.19 for example.

With this MOD, you could give the appearance of running 2.0.1415 or whatever.

It is a step or two easier than uploading update_to_latest.php, running it, and deleting it.

I agree, as long as you use it correctly is defiently a benefit rather than danger.

Hello,
the version number has been removed from the overall_footer.tpl some versions ago. This was called as a security feature. So users, members or visitors are not able to see if the software of the discussion board they are using seems to be well updated.
And now the next step: Give the admin the feeling his board is well updated.

IMO this is horrible!

Only one file has to be uploaded correctly, to run and than to delete. Is this really too much work?

I don't understand!

after you update files you MUST run update_to_latest.php
It will update DB structure AND the version number.
Sorry for my bad English

It is not in my habbits, but indeed you may pefer stop this mod : you will do more damage than good publishing it. The audience you're adressing are advanced users who know what they are doing, and so who don't need at all such thingy. At contrary, making it public will drive regular users who will attempt to use it into very dangerous situation for their board, what may requires advanced expertise to fix, expertise they won't be able at all to do. No gain, only worries.

Hello,
in addition:
Advanced admins will change the version number with PHPMyAdmin or an equivalent tool.
