One thing I would like to suggest: if at all possible, at some point in time, could you please add an option to select one user group that is exempt from spam checks? That way trusted users could be assigned to such group while the rest are still subject to the akismet hammer.

Thanks and happy break! ;)

I am planning to add a check like this in the near future. :)
EDIT: Initially I'm planning to make a simple "Enable Akismet for All Posts/Enable Akismet for only Guests/Disable Akismet" switch, but eventually I'm going to implement this into the phpBB authentication system so that Akismet checking can be handled on a per-forum/per-user-type basis.

Update: Akismet Spam Butcher will be the first of my MODs to offer support for phpBB3 Olympus. This is really exciting not only for Olympus users, who will be able to take advantage of Akismet Spam checking right from the start, but also exciting for me, as it will give me an opportunity to become familiar with the code in Olympus (which is 100% different from phpBB2's code!). I will be working on the Olympus release simultaneously with the phpBB2 release, however the Olympus release will not be formerly released until Olympus' first release candidate (it will be in SVN however). Akismet Spam Butcher will be submitted to the MOD Database when the MOD Team starts accepting MODs for Olympus or when this MOD is completed, whichever comes later.

regarding the api key

i have created a free forum service (means more than 1 forum available to everyone who signs up)
i do have an api key
could i use the same api key for all forums (i'm talking 600+)
or would the users have to get their own api key from wordpress?
not sure if it's the right place to ask

I believe you need to purchase a commercial key

You are able to use an API Key more than once, however if you are using it for the number of sites you're referring to, or are making profit off of sites you are using it on, Akismet asks that you purchase one.

However that's between you and Akismet, and has nothing to do with this MOD; this MOD is free. ;)

The MOD is free to install, the API key is simply the password you need to access the Akismet service.

As you've probably noticed, I'm back from my trip, but I'm currently battling with severe jet lag and trying to prioritize a number of projects that I need to work on (only a month and a half left of summer!!!). Therefore, I'm not going to promise an Akismet Spam Butcher dev release real soon, but I'm hoping to get some stuff into Subversion within the next few days.

Hi there,

after installing this mod, I got this error when posting
SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ')' at line 1

INSERT INTO phpbb_topics (topic_title, topic_poster, topic_time, forum_id, topic_status, topic_type, topic_announce_duration, topic_vote, topic_spam) VALUES ('Testing Akismet', 2, 1153372071, 4, 0, 0, 0, 0, )

Line : 274
File : functions_post.php
Apparently $post_spam is not defined. Any ideas?

It's still in dev, so things might not be working (and probably aren't). I've had a lot of things come up this summer and haven't had a lot of time to dedicate to this (I haven't even started my summer reading yet and school starts in 3 and a half weeks...eeek!). I may have to mark this as abandoned soon. :?

LOL thanks for the quick reply, I solved it by adding it after

Code: Select all

						message_die(GENERAL_MESSAGE, $lang['Flood_Error']);
					}
				}
			}
		}
instead of

Code: Select all

						message_die(GENERAL_MESSAGE, $lang['Flood_Error']);
					}
				}
			}
Extra 1 }

Little itty-bitty errors, lol. Must not have copied right into the installation instructions.

Update on this MOD: Per my last post, this MOD is basically abandoned by me. I haven't officially marked is abandoned yet as I'm contacting a friend (who has done other work w.r.t. Akismet integration) if they would be interested in taking over this MOD first before I officially abandon it.

I have abandoned this MOD. If you are interested in taking over this MOD, please make a new post in this forum. I will be keeping the contents of Subversion live indefinitely; see the first post for SVN details.
