Now that's a fact. More in detail: they use a worldwide pool of servers, some in countries I hadn't even heard of.
There're scripts out there that give you a different IP every minute... :?
The following isn't entirely true:
Throckmorton wrote: You see, they don't go back to check their work. They don't know their registration attempt failed on your site, nor do they care. You (and I) are just a couple of many in their lists that their scripts use.

They definitely do check what's going on with their posts (via scripts... as we all know: you aren't wasting their time, they're wasting yours). After installing a security mod (and blocking major junk :D :P ) the spam hits registered in my log sky-rocketed within a half a day!! A day or so later the spam hits (that still couldn't get through btw) fell dramatically.
Something I noticed before the mentioned install was that spam bots getting through immediately posted a single topic stating "how nice the forum was" (with my forum's name, section name and all...) and some more casual chat; nothing hostile it seemed. They were using 'web.de', 'gmail.com' and more of those free email accounts instead of the usual trash. No website linked in their profile, no signatures... but links in the given text, nothing obvious. The forum was heavily moderated, with 0 tolerance (easy because there's not much going on otherwise to be honest  ). Anyways, now you tell me they don't check what's going on...?
However, thanks to the many discussions going on in this support forum I seem to be succeeding in preventing my forum being overrun by useless junk. Thanks for that all of you :!: :D
PS: I can't wait to see the full release of version 3 (next summer ??)

Happened in our forum.

I accidentally noticed the same post about 10 days later. Words edited - with various links posted.

just beware.

Hey guys, I installed this MOD, and now, nobody can register without getting the "Die Spammer" Error.

Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong??? I went over the code twice, and everything is legit.

Which comes first, the chicken or the egg? No, I mean this mod or the ban list?

Just trying to have a little fun there. Let me try again...

The mod emails me all the bogus attempts from my forums. Every once in a while, I go through and ban all domains that are listed in the spambot registration attempts. In other words, I got 20 spambot attempts that were caught by this mod from somerandomstuff@some-porn-site.info so I ban the domain by adding *@some-porn-site.info to my ban table.

But I still get notifications from this mod for attempts from someusers@some-porn-site.info. I would have thought that once they were banned, this mod wouldn't ever see the attempt anymore.

Does this mod see the attempts even if who ever it is trying is already banned? Or is my ban being bypassed some how?

Thanks for this mod it has saved alot of time for me, I was cleaning out spam posts and spammers accounts on a daily basis now this has basically cut almost all of them out :)

My friend did the same type of thing for his websites email form and its been very effective. I did not know how to modify the phpbb code to use it for the forums aswell so this Mod is just what I have been looking for and has proven to be very effective :)

RevJim wrote:Hi all,

This MOD has been replaced by a better version with ACP support. You can find that version here.

What follows is commentary on the original version, which still works fine (tested up through version 2.0.21). However most users will prefer to use the ACP version because it has more options and is easier to install.

how do i install the acp version, i am confused
