You need to change it to

Code: Select all

http://p.moreover.com/cgi-local/page?c=Pop%20music&o=rss

Updated to Version 0.9.4 BETA

Changes are...
  • Added explanations for admin page
  • Changed layout of admin page
  • Added Forum Categories to list of newsfeeds on admin page
To update...
  • Additions to lang_admin.php (see find.txt)
  • Changes to functions_news.php - just re upload
  • Changes to newsfeed_body.tpl - just re upload
  • Changes to admin_news.php - just re upload
Hopefully, there will only be one more beta release (which will be to finalise the windoze automation instructions) before submitting to the mods database, unless somebody finds a bug

Also it seems when upgrading you need to replace: admin_newsfeeds.php also. I just did the previous steps and noticed in the admin panel, no news feeds listing so I guessed and re-uploaded the file mentioned from the current zip and refreshed, had my newsfeeds list back.

Ok... quick question. If I want to make a quarter daily cron job, how would I add the minutes/hours/days etc... block work. I can't figure it out.

In the minutes block you can put 0-59 for minutes/0-23 for hours/ * to make it work all the time.

So can you explain how I would make it work every 6 hours? It looks like in a cron job you can only set the time you wanted it to post these news.

:?

Thanks for your help.

P.S. Other than my cron job question, everything works great!! You can check it out by going to http://www.drunksquids.com/forums The forum for my news is KDSF News I use "connie chung" as my thread user. 8O

create a batch file (start_task.bat) containing the following...
Code:
"start /min /low YOUR_PATH\start_task.bat"

for YOUR_PATH i used c:\webroot\forums since it's the full path on the server, was I supposed to use something else? and why start "start_task.bat" instead of "task.bat"?

I haven't gotten this to work to actually execute the php file... still working on that

[EDIT] This is what I have in my task and start_task .bat files...

task.bat:

Code: Select all

"start c:\webroot\forums\news_insert.php"
start_task.bat

Code: Select all

"start /min /low c:\webroot\forums\start_task.bat"
[/EDIT]

Try this...

Code: Select all

start "YOUR_PATH_TO_IE" "file://c:\webroot\forums"
ie is probably at - "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"

if that doesn't work then you might want to try the full url.

surtin3xposed wrote: why start "start_task.bat" instead of "task.bat"?

This was a work around i found to stop it opening a dos command window.

Thanks for trying!

Pollix, I'm just guessing as am also new to this "Cron" stuff, although I think we have to simply create multiple crons and set the hour only which would allow 4x a day, ect... = 4 seperate crons :? :?:

BTW, I first took a look at your forum-site a few weeks ago when I was starting my "forumAI" and seen your post in that thread and I have to tell you that is simply brilliant and hilarious what you've done with it  .

Thanks LaZer for your comments! I guess I will be adding 4 cron jobs so I can get recent updates every 6 hours. Right now I have it set to fetch the news every day at 6 a.m. Thanks for your reply!

My news lady for this mod is Connie Chung holding a glass of wine.

 at Connie Chang. Yea I will probably do it that way also once I get setup how I am goin to leave it. Actually I've just set one cron to update hourly  = probably not a good idea to leave this way though.

On a lighter note, I really need to come up with a better name for my reporter. Reporter is pretty lame

Wonder why this feed won't work: :?: http://www.fark.com/XML.xml
