@PhilippT: it should fix the problem you were describing.

I'm not sure if this is because of the new version, but I upgraded to 1.02 and when I ran the news it appears as though the same stories came in again and overwrote the old stories. Oddly, all the replies are now missing but the number of views were retained.

You shouldn't need perl, you should just need any old script file (with execute permissions) with someting like what's detailed in the mod instructions...

Code: Select all

GET http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/YOURFORUMS/mods/netclectic/find_input/news_insert.php > /dev/null

EDIT - its ok, got it sorted now ;)

Forgot to put the word GET before the path in the cron setting

no need for .pl - it's just a shell script, extensions do not have the same importance in linux as windows. generally i would give shell scripts a .sh extenstion, but it's not required. make sure you give it execute permissions - chmod +x filename

it depends on how cron is setup on your server what you need to do to get cron to execute it, i'm afraid i'm no expert in that area.

also, make sure you test the script first before adding it to cron.
