[BETA] WYSIWYG Editor

Post by Jay » Mon Oct 07, 2002 7:46 pm

http://www.dvdfuture.com/wysiwyg/index2.php

I've got it all working. However, since I'm not a JavaScript expert I had to revert to doing things this way. I tried several different ways of doing it (i.e. font colors, inserting images etc) but I couldn't get them to work. If you all know any JavaScript people here on the forums let me know and maybe they could help me out?

So I need input. What would you all like to see not see etc? Also, if you are a JS expert and want to help me out a little and make this a really bad arse mod let me know!

Nice...you might want to run stripslashes() on the code before outputting it to the textarea. Otherwise you get stuff like <img src=\"blahlabhlbl\">

Sorry to ask but is this link supposed to work? I get no results or I get error messages when trying to change anything on the form.
Best regards Tommy

really? what are the error messages? oh and you have to be using IE 5.x to get this to work. Any other browser it doesn't work on.

heh.. :) i know.. this is just the JS version.. i wanted to get input on it and see if there is anyone out there that could/was willing to help out on it..

if not then i've still got to implement it in phpBB cause only IE 5.x users will be able to use it.. so it still has a lot of work on it.. just wanted input etc with it before i continued on it :)

it's supposed to be a way to do bold italic underline and other formatting without having to type out bbcode.. instead you just select the text you want to bold and click the bold button.. etc... kinda like how word is set up or just about any word processing software.

Jay,

Assuming you can get this to work, it will be one of the single most useful enhancements to phpbb.

WYSIWYG is one of the few features that phpbb is lacking. And for pc illiterates it is missed.

Please make it so that advanced users will be able to toy with the underlying code as well.

BTW some of smartor's editor enhancements might help. His use javascript as well and apply the bbcode nicely.

It might really help you with the pictures and links part.

There is also a color bar that is already functional (I like the popup though).

PPS the tags aren't closing unless text is selected.

And I have another mod that I am ready to write up that would be a cool inclusion to this. It's not related to wysiwyg but is related to the posting.

It adds a feature that at the click of a button caches the post so the site won't ever eat it.

Why not try to use the preview function? Use a javascript to update it. Dunno, I don't have time now but I'd like to put in some work on this in the future.
