hmm.I must think about doing that.

All images get automatically resized by an mod I am using.

So how can I try not to uses images/avatars at all. Maybe this look better.

I am running version 0.4

Gansert,
Could you PM me a link to a copy of your phoogle_map.php file (as a zip or rar)?

Here is a hack to remove the <img> tags from the user comment. It will not remove the avatar, only any <img> tags the user typed in to their comment box.
Please let me know how it works for you.

Open phoogle_map.php
Find the block that resembles this:

Code: Select all

$user_phoogle_comment = str_replace($rep, "<br />", $members['user_phoogle_comment']);
$user_phoogle_comment = addslashes(html_entity_decode($user_phoogle_comment));
After, add

Code: Select all

$user_phoogle_comment = eregi_replace("<img[^>]*>", "", $user_phoogle_comment);
Then find

Code: Select all

$user_phoogle_comment = str_replace($rep, "<br />", $user['user_phoogle_comment']);
$user_phoogle_comment = addslashes(html_entity_decode($user_phoogle_comment));
After add

Code: Select all

$user_phoogle_comment = eregi_replace("<img[^>]*>", "", $user_phoogle_comment);

Well, kinda bad news on the PM thing. I can add a button in each bubble to PM the user (only visible to Admin - users won't see it), but there seems to be no way to 'auto-fill' the Subject & Message fields as the PM system is now. I'll look into it more - maybe I can make a slight change to the PM code to allow the fields to be sent in via a link/button.

Thank you very much, I hope you can solve this, but if you can´t it´s ok, you have already developed a truly great mod!

Thanks!

BassFace, where is the latest version for download. I assume that you've made changes as per all the posts since you issued RC1 ?

Maybe not :D

Cheers

No, since RC1 I haven't posted a new version. I was waiting for the MODDB approval/denial. But I have put in a lot of new features since then, so maybe I should release v1.0.2 and see how it goes.

The problem is - updates. It's easy to make the new install text file, but the update file is harder. I'll start working on putting the new package together tonight. 8)
Thanks for your continued interest in the MOD! 8) 8) 8)

Just a little update and maybe get some feedback from you all about the changes.

Info window - now tabbed with avatar (size controlled by main forum Configuration setting), and comment on 2nd tab - loooong comments are automatically scrollable (I thought that was pretty cool).

Now instead of the username being a link to view the User's Profile, I added a Profile button and PM button to the second tab.

I've added the 'Show Me on the Map' option to the user Profile and Admin Manage User pages. Next to add a Admin 'Override User's Show Me Setting" option, so admins can take users off the map regardless of the user's setting.

Also found a bug where if a user changes any of their Phoogle settings
then goes to the avatar gallery to pick a new avatar, all their changes are lost and actually erased when they Submit their Profile changes.

I'll post a fix for that tomorrow hopefully. :D

BassFace, congrats, your mod is quickly becoming one of my favourites ;).

One of my boards member asked for the possibility to add more than one location to her profile... however that kind of unlocks a pandora´s box regarding new features and such... which could be pretty hard to contain... but if you can give it a thought or two, perhaps you can come up with something neat to please my demanding users, hehehe

keep up the great work!

That looks great Bassface. I like the scrolling area, a nice touch

Another good idea. I had a google map from frappr installed and you could add other pins to interesting places. Perhaps a different icon such as a house/building to point out landmarks, plane for airports etc... just like how Google maps has it. But this could be a problem on huge boards with too many pins. Might be better to keep it simple :wink:

Bassface,

I run a photography site, so I'd like to be able to add photographic locations to the maps with an optional thumbnail of the location, plus some information.
That possible with this mod ?

thanks
Mark

yes, just am looking for something similar..

besides the marking of user's locations i would need the possibility of marking places of events. so coolest solution might be to have the listing on the right of the map being a little hirachically sorted, grouped into for example "users", "events1", "events2", .. whereby "users" is what is there now, connected to the user-db, and the "events" are user-setable places..

ideally one can enable a whole group (all users) or single marks below a group (by tickbox?)

that would be cute.. ;)

Well, I had originally intended this MOD to just be user locations, but my next MOD idea was going to extend the map (or add a new map) to other things like you all are mentioning. I am worried about making the map too crowded by adding more than one marker per user - there is a beta-user who has over 130 users mapped, give each a "Favorite Place" marker, too and you are up to 260! 8O

That does sound cool! That would require quite a bit more functionality than this MOD is capable of right now. Like I mentioned in the post above, I do plan on a 2nd MOD that will add/extend the mapping possibilities beyond just user location.
I wanted to keep this MOD relatively simple, as it is the first MOD I've made with public release in mind. So I'm learning alot as we go.

Keep in mind that Google maps has access to functionality that they don't release in the API/public version (ie. mouse-wheel zoom), but there are lots of more advanced features available that this MOD doesn't take advantage of.

The new - improved phpbb.com is up! I think it looks awesome!
But back to the business at hand - I need a few adventurous folks to volunteer to install/run the latest version of the Phoogle Maps MOD (v1.0.2). Preferably those of you who backed-up your files before installing any previous version of the MOD, or those very comfortable following the install text really closely and changing their already-modded files. WinMerge is a great tool for any MOD installs, IMHO.
I'm working on the install file now, and it's not too dissimilar from the previous install (that is to say, most changes are in the exact same places) and there's a few new entries into the phpbb_users table. The rest of the changes are in the included files.

If you feel up to installing the new version for some error finding/reporting, please PM me and I'll send it off to you as soon as it's packaged up (which should be tonight, actually).

Thanks everyone!
Bass

Thanks, gansert! I've finished up the install text file, just need to run through it with a clean install before I upload it. 8) Also, I got some help a while back with making the MOD EasyMOD compliant, which will be stage 2 of the release (changing the install text file to pass through EasyMOD's install process). Do you run EasyMOD?
