Re: [BETA] Phoogle (Google) Map

Post by DynoGT »

Hi BassFace,

Thanks for creating this mod. I've been needing something like this on my site for a while. Just one question though. My site has tons of links in the profiles, view topic, and on the main page already, so I was just going to create a thread and put a link to the maps section in there. Can you tell me what I need to remove from the install file to keep the links from showing up on those three pages?

Thanks,
D

Dont add this line to your overall_header.tpl

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_PHOOGLE}" class="mainmenu"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/icon_mini_phoogle.gif" width="12" height="13" border="0" alt="{L_PHOOGLE}" hspace="3" />{L_PHOOGLE}</a>&nbsp;

Thanks wingzfan. That sounds like it would remove the link near the login button. But could anyone tell me how to remove the other links in view topic and in view profile?

That's right - that will remove the (image and text) link from the header. I don't have the text of the install file with me - I'm at work right now - but it should just be a matter of removing template tags from the .tpl pages.
I think the files you'll want are /templates/subSilver/usercp_view_profile.tpl and view_topic.tpl. Search the Phoogle Map install file for the instructions that add to those files. The part you'll want to remove will look like this {SOME_PHOOGLE_VAR} - but I can't remember the var name without seeing the install text file :? . If you'd like, post the install text file here and I'll browse through it so I can give you more specific instructions.

Alright, well thanks for helping me with this. I'd try to find the code myself but I'm worried that I'd mess something up. I'm still an amateur at coding.

Well here's a link to the install file:

Glad to help. 8)
To remove the Phoogle Map button from the 'View Profile' page (the page when looking at other user's Profiles):

OPEN
templates/subSilver/profile_view_body.tpl

FIND AND DELETE

Code: Select all

<tr>
		  <td valign="middle" nowrap="nowrap" align="right"><span class="gen">{L_PHOOGLE}:</span></td>
		  <td><span class="gen">{PHOOGLE_IMG}</span></td>
		</tr>
To remove the Phoogle Map button from under users' posts in the forums:

OPEN
templates/subSilver/viewtopic_body.tpl

FIND AND DELETE

Code: Select all

{postrow.PHOOGLE_IMG}

Well I got that part worked out. But now I'm getting these error messages when I try to save my location.

Is there any chance you could help me with that too? Here's a link to those two files.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/5/31/ ... lidate.txt
http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/5/31/ ... header.txt

Looks like these two lines don't match up:

Code: Select all

function validate_optional_fields(&$icq, &$aim, &$msnm, &$yim, &$website, &$paypal, &$location, &$occupation, &$interests, &$sig, &$map_center, &$phoocomm)
{
$check_var_length = array('aim', 'msnm', 'yim', 'location', 'occupation', 'interests', 'sig', 'map_center', 'phoocomm');
Try this - in functions_validate.php:
find

Code: Select all

$check_var_length = array('aim', 'msnm', 'yim', 'location', 'occupation', 'interests', 'sig', 'map_center', 'phoocomm');
and replace with this:

Code: Select all

$check_var_length = array('icq', 'aim', 'msnm', 'yim', 'website', 'paypal', 'location', 'occupation', 'interests', 'sig', 'map_center', 'phoocomm');
The header error should resolve once the other error is fixed.

Undo the changes I suggested to functions_validate.php. I'll have to think about it some more. Anyone else have a suggestions?

Thanks. I need to resubmit to the MODDB team for approval, and who knows how long that may take. The queue is quite long I think. :?

Dyno, did you install this with EasyMOD or manually?
Either way, here's another possibility - in includes/usercp_register.php make sure this edit was completed

Code: Select all

#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------
#
validate_optional_fields(
#
#-----[ IN-LINE FIND ]----------------------------------
#
$signature
#
#-----[ IN-LINE AFTER, ADD ]----------------------------------
#
, $map_center, $phoocomm

I started off with Easymod but had to edit a few pages myself since there was some code missing due to other mods.

And that piece of code you just mentioned, that did the trick. I did get through the error messages. Now the only problem I have, is that it won't save my coordinates. When I look at the map, it just shows my marker at the top left hand part of the screen. I'll try to go over all the install instructions again today but if you know of quick fix, let me know.

Thanks,
D

DynoGT, did you find anything else? Most likely, the problem is in includes/usercp_register.php so check that file first, but it may also be in the database sql statements. I assume EasyMOD ran the sql from the install file? If so, does it create a log of any kind regarding what instructions it ran successfully/unsuccessfully?
Post it here if it did, we can have a look. :)
Also, I'd like to see your map, could you post a link to your Map page? (You can PM me if you don't want it seen by everyone).
