http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=117
shows a more typical page, in terms of loading speed etc...
that said on mx-system.com the speed issues come from our hosts and from our current theme

OT - were having a theme competition, I'm hoping for at least one light entry to show just how nippy mx can be.

mx installs in a seperate folder, and never ever overwrites any files but its own...
if this is the first time using mx please make sure you never overwrite phpbb files as it will simply cause both to fail...

if upgrading read the read me notes.

Overall

Post by remixstore » Wed Jul 21, 2004 5:48 am

I would like to know people's overall reaction to this... we're debating between MX, EZPortal, IM or just jumping to Nuke...

people got this working with the new phpBB 2.010?

This is not a suitable thread for such a discussion, mearly an announcment thread plus we tend to be biased, the best way for you to find your answer is to try them all out!

though I can answer your second point mx2.7.3
works fine with phpbb versions 2.05+ including 2.010 :)

Yes with the exception of one or two big mods that massivly change phpbb, the biggest problem is the cash mod though I believe we have a fix for it availble on the mx forums.

I for one know it works running, hierachy mod with attachment, profilecp module, junior admin, extreme style, mesage icon, and hundreds of minor mods without problem :)

For those upgrading from phpbb 2.08 to 2.010 you may experience a small bug when using mx 2.7.x

full details of the fix are posted here along with continued discussion
http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopi ... 4794#24794

Please try the following (backup file first)

Open mx's common.php

FIND - Line 174

Code: Select all

if( getenv('HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR') != '' )
{
	$client_ip = ( !empty($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR']) ) ? $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'] : ( ( !empty($HTTP_ENV_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR']) ) ? $HTTP_ENV_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'] : $REMOTE_ADDR );

	$entries = explode(',', getenv('HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'));
	reset($entries);
	while (list(, $entry) = each($entries))
	{
		$entry = trim($entry);
		if ( preg_match("/^([0-9]+\.[0-9]+\.[0-9]+\.[0-9]+)/", $entry, $ip_list) )
		{
			$private_ip = array('/^0\./', '/^127\.0\.0\.1/', '/^192\.168\..*/', '/^172\.((1[6-9])|(2[0-9])|(3[0-1]))\..*/', '/^10\..*/', '/^224\..*/', '/^240\..*/');
			$found_ip = preg_replace($private_ip, $client_ip, $ip_list[1]);

			if ($client_ip != $found_ip)
			{
				$client_ip = $found_ip;
				break;
			}
		}
	}
}
else
{
	$client_ip = ( !empty($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR']) ) ? $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'] : ( ( !empty($HTTP_ENV_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR']) ) ? $HTTP_ENV_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'] : $REMOTE_ADDR );
}
REPLACE WITH

Code: Select all

// I'm removing HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR ... this may well cause other problems such as
// private range IP's appearing instead of the guilty routable IP, tough, don't
// even bother complaining ... go scream and shout at the idiots out there who feel
// "clever" is doing harm rather than good ... karma is a great thing ... :)
//
$client_ip = ( !empty($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR']) ) ? $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'] : ( ( !empty($HTTP_ENV_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR']) ) ? $HTTP_ENV_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'] : $REMOTE_ADDR );

I am using MX

Post by manvikta » Sat Nov 13, 2004 11:38 pm

I must say MX is a very good portal. I am using Mx-Newssuite with PHPBB's RSS feed-input mod to make a neat news block :D

I also have other mods installed and they seem to run smoothly. The best thing to do is make comments whenerver you mod any file...this helpd in future.
About the speed, I think if you 'cache' in the admin pages, it will make it a bit faster. Also try and remove images from the header, links etc.
The only problem I experinced,was with having the mx index as the site's index. This was fixed by .htaccess modification but all the php links that use the browser's current location got offset and I had to manually change all the code. But it was worth it.
If you want to visit my site, PM me.I will gladly give you a tour.
