Remove memberlist and whos online box

Post by tenable »

I would like to do a very un forum type thing.

I don't want the members /users to look at or message to each other. The communication must be just admin.

They are clients, I want to run an online service log. They can login and track the progress of various tasks in the one forum asigned to themetc.

I also don't like them using email as this is not secure, leaving messages on the forum behind an SSL link is more secure.

Anyone know what I should do? Thanks :roll:

This is not a MOD request really but a SUPPORT one to me but here's my answer anyhow...

1) What I did on removal of Membership list TOTALLY was went to the overall_header.tpl and found this area below:

<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="0">
<tr>
<td align="center" valign="top" nowrap="nowrap"><span class="mainmenu">&<a href="{U_FAQ}" class="mainmenu"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/icon_mini_faq.gif" width="12" height="13" border="0" alt="{L_FAQ}" hspace="3" /><i>{L_FAQ}</i></a></span><span class="mainmenu">& &<a href="{U_SEARCH}" class="mainmenu"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/icon_mini_search.gif" width="12" height="13" border="0" alt="{L_SEARCH}" hspace="3" /><i>{L_SEARCH}</i></a>&  ;<a href="{U_MEMBERLIST}" class="mainmenu"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/icon_mini_members.gif" width="12" height="13" border="0" alt="{L_MEMBERLIST}" hspace="3" /><i>{L_MEMBERLIST}</i></a>& &<a href="{U_GROUP_CP}" class="mainmenu"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/icon_mini_groups.gif" width="12" height="13" border="0" alt="{L_USERGROUPS}" hspace="3" /><i>{L_USERGROUPS}</i></a>&

I removed what is in BLUE. It took the whole list out of the forum for good.

2) For the allowance of no one to email one another inside the forum:

I went to the ADMIN area, and under configuration, told it to not allow any one to email each other from with in the forum. Worked like a charm.

Neither are un-forum like, they are your catered to your needs option.

Hope it works. (if I am wrong I sure someone will correct me. I received help herre and I was just browsing and decide to give help back. ;) )

Thanks for the help

Your suggestion worked really well. BIG Thanks

However I disabled the email via board option in admin configuration but users can continue to email.

The email as such is not a problem but the loss of confidentiality to the user when a search for user is attempted.

That is my next request how do I get rid of the search for user box?
And how do you get rid of the who's online/lastest user is.. box at login.

Removing 'search for user' box., thatone I don;t know, never had to use it. Sorry.... Hopefully an experienced person will follow-up by us keeping this near the top ;)

Removing 'Who's Online....' Box

IF, I am correct, find this file:

index_body.tpl

look for this WHOLE table:

<table width="100%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" border="0" class="forumline">
<tr>
<td class="catHead" colspan="2" height="28"><span class="cattitle"><a href="{U_VIEWONLINE}" class="cattitle"><i>{L_WHO_IS_ONLINE}</i></a></span></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="row1" align="center" valign="middle" rowspan="2"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/whosonline.gif" alt="{L_WHO_IS_ONLINE}" /></td>
<td class="row1" align="left" width="100%"><span class="gensmall"><i>{TOTAL_POSTS}</i><br /><i>{TOTAL_USERS}</i><br /><i>{NEWEST_USER}</i></span>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="row1" align="left"><span class="gensmall"><i>{TOTAL_USERS_ONLINE}</i> & [ {L_WHOSONLINE_ADMIN} ] & [ {L_WHOSONLINE_MOD} ]<br /><i>{RECORD_USERS}</i><br /><i>{LOGGED_IN_USER_LIST}</i></span></td>
</tr>
</table>

<table width="100%" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" border="0">
<td align="left" valign="top"><span class="gensmall"><i>{L_ONLINE_EXPLAIN}</i></span></td>
</table>

<br clear="all" />

I think you have to JUST remove the row(s) that would include 'who's online' and whatever else you are attempting to take out... Try and test and see what it removes by removing a section at a time between <tr></tr>. I have not had to remove anything there, so I am not putting this in stone. I hope you are backing up files BEFORE doing this. I am a newbie but I have tried and tested with many things by backing up FIRST!!!

Let me know. I saw it the first time but I am in allergy season and needed to rest my eyes from searching in here for new MODS to add. They are severely itching right now.....

And on emails, in my forum, when I disallowed people to email in the forum in the ADMIN panel, NO ONE could... maybe I am wrong on that and someone will answer who is more knowledgeable.

See ya!

Kellster - the above removes the membership TOTALLY off the forum. Cant' be viewed at all, ever, I believe. (At least that's the effect it had for me). I could be wrong, I am sure someone will correct me if so.

Balint over on Support left me this MOD, that LOCKS it from anyone not registered from viewing it ONLY: (in other words, Guests peeping in can not see the list)

Please try this one: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.ph ... est+access

If you want more depth than this, like ADMIN/MOD only membership viewable list, than I suggest searching and/or asking in Support for it.

remove "Find a username"

Post by tenable »

Thanks fo the help, you know your stuff! It works I have now removed the whos online box.

I now just need to get rid of the button on Private message page that says Find a username. If a client started feeding in wildcards they would soon see the members even though I renamed the members list file so as to disable it.

I hope someone will be interested in that challenge. Thanks again 2LadyDi

Uhmmmmmm... OK Tenable, my board is not that deep. I wanted ONLY my people to see the members list and not the entire internet. See my forum is totally private. So I wanted to make that area just like the rest of it.

But I am glad I could assist with what I rencently learned. Hey I just messed up the gender/b-day MODs. So I am not great. :P I need to know how to make the b-day notification info at the bottom viewable to ONLY people registered now. So I will be on unique request hunt as well soon.

Good luck in the search for the rest of your requests. They may not come real fast in here and then sometimes they do.
