Request: Stop Post Increasing in certain threads

I searched, but everytime I do, I get that stupid Internal 500 error. And you can only be so damned specific.

I'm looking for a way to stop posts from increasing while posting in a specific thread. I have a games thread that has over 6,000 replies. My users love the game, but I hate the post whoring. They say that I could stop the post count and they'd still play, so I want to do this.

Ideas?

If someone wants to take a crack at it, it really wouldn't be that hard (yet I have duties to attend to, and sleep) and I would look at using parts of New Post Type and then specifying that these topics don't increase the post count. So anyway, this would be fairly simple (or perhaps request a feature addon to GPH, or perhaps wait a bit).

I personally don't care how my people get their post counts, but hey, why not?

It doesn't even have to have a friendly interface, really.
Hard coded would be fine.

I wouldn't mind having to put a code in like..

{ else if
thread = "name of thread"
post count = doesn't increase }

Rofl. I know that wouldn't work, but I don't know PHP. :oops:

Code: Select all

#-----[ OPEN ]-----
includes/functions_post.php

#-----[ FIND ]-----
	if ($mode != 'poll_delete')
	{
		$sql = "UPDATE " . USERS_TABLE . "

#-----[ REPLACE WITH ]-----
	if ($mode != 'poll_delete' && $topic_id != '99')
	{
		$sql = "UPDATE " . USERS_TABLE . "
Replace the 99 with your topic number. I don't see why this wouldn't work, even if I never would validate this to hit the database here (and not tested).

Okay, so this code will stop posts from increasing within that certain topic? Awesome, thanks! :D

Just a general question. Will this decrease the user's post count for the posts that are already within that thread?

No it will not, it will only affect future posts being made.

It isn't working. The post count is still increasing.
Does it have anything to do with where the code is located? "Poll_delete" seems like a funny place to stop a post count. But I dunno PHP. :oops:

Hmm, nevermind. It seems to work now.

Would disabling points (Point System) in the specific post consist of the same type of procedure?

Probably, but I do not have a running install of Points, so I couldn't check the code there.
