[Request] shorten long link

Post by AL » Mon May 06, 2002 6:28 am

if someone posts a really long url it breaks the tables. how about a mod that gets/sets a max value, then if the url is longer than max value it copies up to max value, then puts in ...
this is similar to the last topic title on index mod.

i figure it should be pretty simple, but can't figure out where to start.

Hey.

I have two different methods to acomplish this, however, I can't figure out how to get either of them to work.

I think what I'll do is drop a PM to Nathan C. and see if he can whip this up for us! I'd really like to see this too!

Later.

I could really use something like this. My forum is strictly set to a certain width, and long strings of text mess it up.

Amen. It's amazing the length of some URL's.
The light at the end of the tunnel might be a train.

Brute Force Solution

Well, this doesn't fix it in phpbb but you could try to train users to take this approach when posting monster links:

Mods/admins with edit privs can also band-aid problem links after the fact by substituting the shorter links in posts that break the page.
