subscribe to a whole forum

Post by IanL » Wed May 26, 2004 5:56 am

i looked in the mod database but didnt see anything to do this.

It would be cool if you could subscribe to a particular forum so that each time a new thread is started, you get an email notification. I suppose the option to make it so that each time a new post is made you also get notified would be nice also. But for my purposes i just want to know when a new thread is started. Then i can subscribe to that individual thread if i want to.

any chance this could be done? (or has been done). I tried searching for it but i just keep getting an error message when i run the search.

cool. that looks like what i want. Although i just thought of something. I mainly wanted to use this just for myself. I'm not sure if i want to let all the users have this feature, since if they all sign up for it my server is going to be sending out a ton of emails.

Is there some way to restrict this feature on a per-user basis?

At the worst, could i have the link for this show up the same way the link for the admin panel shows up? so that only if you are an admin (or moderator) will you see the subscribe to forum link.

Yes you could do this rather easily by:

1> Not displaying the "Subscribe to this Forum" link (just skip this step in the application of the mod)

and

2> in the newly created table phpbb_forums_watch just manually add a record for each forum id that you wanted to subscribe to by using your user id
