Same userdatabase for phpBB and mediawiki ?

Post by Mr_Blonde »

Hello,

is it possible to use/combine the user database from phpBB with the one from mediaWiki?

Reason: I am running a phpBB and wiki for private purpose and dont want that the users have to register twice for the board and the wiki.

I am not very familiar with php, mysql and password encryption, but as far as i figured out, both use MD5 hashing for the passwords.

Is there a way to use the same userdatabase?

Thanks in advance.

Olli

Hi,

I am in the same situation, so instead of starting a new thread, I though I would bump this one.

Has anyone done this yet?

It would be great to know how to do this. My attempts have all failed.

Lets cross our fingers.

Hi, I also am in the same situation. I suppose that it's not very difficult, but I am far from being an php/sql expert and I am unable to create the program to do that. So, I am also hoping...

Bump for an old thread with an excellent request for help. I run a site that has mediawiki and phpbb, and could really use some more information on this. I'm also in the process of designing a very large site that will have both mediawiki and forums. Having this functionality will be the deciding factor if I use phpbb or go with another forum package that has better support for this kind of feature.

That's a nice mod idea, but not what I'm looking for. I want the full functionality of Mediawiki, and I want both phpBB and Mediawiki to use the same MySQL user table. I've examined both. They don't appear to be that different from each other where this is too hard to be worthwhile. From what I can tell, it would probably be easier to mod phpBB to use the Mediawiki user table rather than mod Mediawiki to use the phpBB user table. I'm slowly learning more and more about how phpBB code works. Perhaps I will soon find the answer on my own.

Apart from if there is a MOD already created for this, there is no way (unless you are very familiar with PHP and MySQL and are able to modify the Mediawiki code to be compatible) to do this.

There's an extension to media wiki that uses the phpbb user table for authentication -> http://217.160.138.71/development/index ... Auth_phpBB

For me it doesn't work yet, i get tons of warnings and wiki errors while using it. Maybe someone finds the error or can do a workaround.

Interesting concept. I will check it out to see how difficult it would be.
