reversing the chronological order of Topics

Post by evils_lair »

I have searched and searched and can't find the answer to a simple question. Can anyone help me in discovering the way to have topics be listed with the first post at the top being the most recent? The default is for the first post to be the initial post and is followed in chronological order as you scroll down to the most recent posts. I would like to reverse that if possible. Any help would be most appreciated.

"&postorder=desc" ?????

Thanks

mojosurfin if you are referring to "Define topic sort order per forum" then I think you have misread the question. It looks to me that evils_lair is wanting to reverse the chronological ored of the posts inside the topics. I too would like to be able to do this but have not found it yet. If you were referring to another Mod at the link you provided please be more specific as I cannot find it.

Not without a Mod.

Moved to "mod requests"

This doesn't require a mod. You just have to add &postorder=desc to the end of topic urls. For example:
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.ph ... order=desc

Now, if you want all the links in viewforum.php to have that on the end of them, that does require a mod. It can be done either of these in two ways:

1) Find this line in viewforum.phpand add &postorder=desc after $topic_id (and before the last "):

Code: Select all

$view_topic_url = append_sid("viewtopic.$phpEx?" . POST_TOPIC_URL . "=$topic_id");
2) Find {topicrow.U_VIEW_TOPIC} in viewforum_body.tpl and add &postorder=desc after it.

Newsflash!

If you change the stock code in any way, it is a mod! No matter how small the change.

My point exactly. Unless one wants to change the links in viewforum.php, no changes to the stock code are needed to change the order in which posts are displayed. The bit you quoted has been built-in since at least phpBB 2.0.0.

Thanks a ton Thoul, I will give it a shot. Seems if it is that siple it would make for an easy mod to ake it user selectable in the profile... but then what do I know I dont understand any of it... just keep plugging along and thanks to the help of good people like you if the answers are not already here they magically appear..

Thoul I did this as suggested and it worked but after posting it reverted back to the default order making it very confusing for my users. I have also come to the conclusion that in order to acceptable across the userbase it will have to be user selectable. I started a mod request topic on this here

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.ph ... 419#300419

then realized this thread to was in mod requests, so now I am likely to suffer the wrath of the moderators. My apologies.
