BBcode

Post by aolcott » Sun Jun 15, 2008 8:28 pm

I'm worried about users posting links to other sites. However I want to use one forum as a blog. This forum would only have one person who could post, and I want him to be able to use links to other sites. I want to turn off bbcode for the other forums.

I have been able to turn off bbcode on the user level, but then I wonder, will I need to do that for each user? That seems cumbersome to say the least. Can I change the default setting for new users so bbcode is disabled?

Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. Does anyone have any help on how to achieve this?

The forum is at http://www.napcoltd.com/phpBB2/

Thanks,

Andy

first, why would you care if people put links in their posts?

anyway, turning off bbcode does not stop people from posting links nor does it stop links from working.

It will only stop a link that is posted using the [ url][/ url] bbcode tags.

I don't want people to post links to competitor's sites. So is there anyway to prevent folks from posting links? If so, is there any way to alow them on only one forum?

Thanks,

Andy

not really, bottom line is that you get to make the rules and if people do not follow your rules, you can ban them and delete them, etc.

You could try the word censor.

word = http*
replacement = "whatever you want" but maybe "Sorry but no links allowed"

That would of course stop the use of images as well.
