phpbb in a Members Only area

Post by GoldStarDads »

I would like to use phpbb in a Members Only area. Is it possible to have a greetings page with the registration and/or login then open in the SSL of the Members Only area?

SOMETHING LIKE THIS
Greeting page w/ registration link - to - Terms page - to - Registration page w/ in depth user info - THEN to the verify email & final Admin OK of new account.

something like what TAPS does here, They use ASP >> http://www.taps.org/online_community/

Then If you are already a member, the login link (already filled in by cookie) on the greeting page opens you in a HTTPS, SSL and a new greeting page with your Forum and Chat options.

I currently have 2.0.23 running on my site and would be open to an upgrade to 3.0 if I didn't lose everything I already have.

Why do you want to use SSL at all?

What is your actual aim? If you just want an area that only certain members can access, then phpBB's permissions can already do that.

Your right about the SSL that was a brain fart.

My CONCERN is that the people that I have set this board up for all Gold Star Parents and Family members who deserve their privacy. For those who are not familiar with the term Gold Star is what we call families who have lost a Son or Daughter in the War on Terror. Blue Stars are Active Duty, Silver Star or Wounded Soldiers. When you see a car on the road an they have a small sticker in the window, red flag with a gold star in the middle, that is a Gold Star parent.

My biggest objection to phpbb, and it has been for years, is that every scumbag, lowlife, pornography pushing, heathen especially from Europe has some kind of search bug that finds every phpbb installation and attacks it with phony registrations to push their links and garbage.

I installed just 3 weeks ago and got the first one within 6 hours, from Isbakastan (sp) At that time I had admin set to user register, and that guy posted a bunch of disgusting photos.I changed the board to admin OK all registrations to stop the immediate postings, and on average I delete 6 new registrations per day, everyday.

I want to set it up in a Members Only area where the original registration won't appear to be phpbb. I also need to collect more info on registration that phbb current does, maybe 4 or 5 more lines, so I need to address that as well.

I know there are some real phpbb Guru's out there, anyone have suggestions? This is a non-profit organization, anyone want to volunteer to help set this Members Only Area up. Here is a link to our website http://www.goldstardads.org

There are plenty of very effective anti-spam measures that you can take, and there is a very long "sticky" topic in the phpBB2 support area with details. :)
I blog about phpBB: phpBBDoctor blog
